Who did you tell?

I found out I was pregnant yesterday. I'm still very early in, about 4 weeks. My husband knows and I've told my mum, but my husband wants to keep it private for a while. I had to tell a customer services person as I was due to start a diet plan and had to cancel and the receptionist at the doctor knows. It feels weird that they know and my dad and pil don't! Who did you tell and when?

Ds- told dp, doctors receptionist and mw. No one else until 13 weeks, then parents and siblings then mates.
Dd- told everyone pretty much straight away. Mate guessed when I ordered a diet coke at 6 weeks. I felt, and looked so bloody rough that I just told people. My first scan also fell after Christmas so I would have had to lie about why I wasn't drinking over Christmas, no one would have believed me, it would have just been uncomfortable with everyone knowing but me not saying!

Thank you for the congratulations. It feels weird. Moments of surreal followed by "ooft, I'm going to be in charge of a human" reality. I am very bad at secrets.

My partner, my yoga instructor and my PA (who found out when she walked into a room when I was in the phone to the doctor!). Didn't tell anyone else until I was 13 weeks after my scan, wanted to make sure everything was ok. Told work, my partners children, then parents, siblings, close Friends then everyone else.
I think it's all just personal preference. Congratulations on your news :)

I told my mum and dad only, after a good 7 week (private) scan. I'm 41 so I am a bit more cautious than the average person due to the higher risk of chromosome problems over 40. I'm glad I told my mum as it's given me someone to talk to.
We will tell everyone else once/if we get an all-clear on the blood test we're paying for (Harmony- expensive but very reliable). The results will be in at 11 weeks. I'm at 10 weeks so have 1 week to wait and it does get easier, as long as you have at least one person you can confine in other than your DH (especially if that person is a mum themselves and has been through it)

Doctors at 5 weeks.
Dh at 7 weeks - Was convinced it wouldn't stick and don't want to see him heart broken again.
Parents at 8 weeks.
Work at 10 weeks due to sickness and needing lighter duties because of back pain

No one else until at least after Christmas. I'm hoping to hide the bump as long as possible. People annoy me

I didn't even consider having to hide a bump SuperMan! Hopefully Christmas will be a good excuse to disguise any baby bump with "turkey"!

Congrats! I found out I'm PG on Monday with my first! Think I'm about four weeks too, but could be longer as I'm irregular so not easy to pinpoint. Isn't it wonderful? I've told my OH, my mum and medical people who need to know. I've told my OH he should tell his parents if he really wants to, as long as they don't tell the whole Fam!

I told dh, my parents and siblings.
My boss and two colleagues due to spending so much time at work vomiting.
One friend who lives abroad as we don't chat much and she called shortly after I got my bfp (I was still in shock)

I'm now having a few probs (bleeding) and had to leave work twice already for appointments so most colleagues suspect but I'm not confirming it to all and sundry.

My friends will guess when I'm not drinking at the Christmas parties so may confirm then (I'll be ten weeks) - I'll have had two scans at this point.

Thanks PoppyJ1 - congratulations to you too. I think we've said we will tell the rest of the parents at Christmas but hopefully they'll just keep it quiet.

Doesn't sound like you're having a great time of it Bawbles . I rarely drink so it won't be noticed if I don't partake in a sherry or two over Christmas.

First time around I pretty much told HR at head office when only DH knew. I was due to start a new job so had to phone to ask on a hypothetical (clearly not) basis about my maternity leave entitlement in case it affected my start date.

Other than that I've told parents at 8 weeks after a scan but held off telling friends until 10-14 weeks and then the world until 20+.

Congratulations OP! I told the DH as soon as I found out and my sister a few days later and obviously the midwife. We're still yet to tell my our parents, family and close friends as we're waiting to get to 12-13 weeks (which will be around is christmas day!) to make sure everything is fine with the pregnancy.

It's difficult though with social aspects as I'm avoiding alcohol and making excuses to not partake in social events :S as soon as they notice I'm not drinking I think they'll know somethings up! So far I've been lying and saying I've been unwell.. but now it's getting to the point where I'm just constantly.. a bit unwell I think I can now move on to the.. I've been so unwell the doctor's put me on "anti-biotics" so should buy me more time

First person I told even before DF was the woman from the Clear Blue trial lol. I then told anyone and everyone by 6 weeks

I did the test with my DH there (ok, not for the actual peeing!) so we found out together. After that, docs and randomly, a recruiter as I had to pull out of a job offer. No one else till 15 weeks because we wanted to make sure all was ok at 12 week scan and then had the NIPT genetic test which took 2 more weeks. Then just immediate family and best friends. I was still quite nervous of something going wrong (I'm late 30s) so we only told people who we could live with also having to tell if there was bad news. I think that's a good principle for telling anyone before about 12 weeks, after which the risk of miscarriage drops dramatically. Now almost 20 weeks and telling people we see regularly because it's frankly getting hard to hide! After 20 week scan, will tell other non-local friends. Nothing on FB till much later on, if at all. Maybe just birth pics!!
