Tested High Risk For 2 types of Syndrome

I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I had a scan and a blood test to check for downs syndrome and 2 other tests. The Downs syndrome came back fine however the other 2 came back high risk. I now have decided to have an amniocentesis which I am quite worried about but will give me a definite answer. Has anyone ever had one or can put me at ease?

I can't help you as I am in a v similar situation. But you might get more support on the antenatal test group instead of pregnancy. I posted on there - it's just a really horrible time isn't it? I'm likely to have a CVS next week - just waiting on Harmony results...

i came back as 1in5 for T21, with NHS testing. i was booked in for amnio as i was already 15 weeks.

Id also been bleeding so didn't want to make the risk even bigger having an amnio so booked for a private NIPT which then came back i was 1in 10.000. and that was testing all the trisomys.

I've not personally had an amnio or CVS or anything, but the ARC website is really useful.

Hello, I had a CVS which is very similar to an amnio - I was high risk for Downs and Edwards and Patau. It all went pretty smoothly, a bit sore and not nice worrying about MC whilst also waiting nervously for the results, but I had it at a large teaching hospital so very low MC rate. Results were all clear.

However that was before the Harmony/NIPT test existed. Have you considered having that - I'd have had that instead if it had been invented then. It's not quite as accurate as a CVS/amnio but it is very very accurate and the few false results tend to be false positives (so you could then have the amnio to double check) rather than false negatives. It is costly though.
