Does anyone know if I start taking arnica tablets before the birth, or do I wait until after?
thank v much

Now is a good time (or about four days before you are expecting the bruising!). Good luck MBB

I used arnica after the birth and they were brilliant but I was told you take them a couple o days before too but didnt know this until after. I will start taking before the birth this time round.

make sure you get the strong dosage eg 30c, and not the 6c which is also available. They work! Good luck!

They definitely work. I took them after a terrible labour with Ventouse, forceps and episiotomy, and never needed a single pain relief tablet. I started taking mine on the day of the birth, and they still worked.

Good luck with everything.

Cheers - have just taken first dose! (although unfortunatley it is the 6c ones).

I was told by my homeopath to get the 1000 one for RIGHT after the birth - before you cut the cord (I had the cord cut when it stop pulsating allowing for the baby to get maximum from m - inclduing some arnica).
Get stronger arnica anyway... get calendula as well for any cut (episiotomy) or tear.

Good luck

Um, the "strong dose" for a homeopathic preparation would be the 6c -- ie, one part of medicine in 1,000,000,000,000 (that's 12 zeros, or should be) parts filler. The weak dose is 30c, which is one part medicine in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that should be 60 zeros) parts filler. Just fyi.

Enid · 01/06/2002 11:27

sorry! I always thought it was the other way round...

Enid · 01/06/2002 11:39

Actually I am sure its the other way round now I've looked on the internet - can anyone enlighten us??

JJ · 01/06/2002 13:21

Enid, it's confusing because higher dilutions are referred to as higher "potencies", so the more dilute (ie the less of the active ingredient in a given amount of solvent or filler) the higher the potency.

Homeopathic medicines are made by taking one part active ingredient and diluting it into 99 parts filler (usually lactose, if it's a solid or water/alcohol if it's a liquid). This potency is then 1c. The next dilution is taking the 1 part of the 1c mixture and then diluting it with 99 parts filler, to result in a 2c potency. And so on, and so on. So a 6c potency has been diluted in the same way 6 times and a 30c potency has been diluted 30 times. You might also find an potency which, instead of c uses an X. This simply means that one part ingredient was diluted in 10 parts solvent/filler for each X. Eg, 12X is one part ingredient to 1,000,000,000,000 (1 followed by 12 zeros) parts filler and 12c is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1 followed by 24 zeros).

You can check out this site (a pro-homeopathy site):
www.homeopathyhome.com/reference/articles/homeolist_faq.shtml

It's interesting that no one picked up on this before.

JJ · 01/06/2002 13:52

Oops, yes, Enid you're right. According to homeopathic principles, the most dilute preparation (ie the one with the least active ingredient) is considered the strongest.

Hadn't expected that! Sorry.

Enid · 01/06/2002 18:25

phew! Otherwise it would have been purely psychological that the 6c worked less well than the 30c! Ta JJ.

pupuce · 02/06/2002 08:02

Hence the 1000 Arnica is very strong

em1998 · 23/07/2018 14:56

I only took them after as i didnt know you could use them before but i found that they really helped x
