i think i might have caught head lice of my friend and her kids, can't find none in my dd's hair but mine is itchy

i meant to ask the doc today, but forgot, does anyone know if your allowed to put chemical treatment on your hair when pg?

don't think so. Check the bottle, there should be a help-line number. I was told by chemist not to use it on dd1 when I was pg with ds.

You can lather your hair in conditioner and use a nit comb. If you do this every day for about a week, I think it gets rid of them

funnypeculiar · 13/02/2007 14:57

ewww, I DREAMT I had headlice last night

No idea in reply to OP ... would NHS Direct know?

Surfermum · 13/02/2007 14:58

My GP prescribed me Lyclear when I was pregnant. My step-d gets them really badly and for some reason I was more susceptible to picking them up when I was pregnant.

If you don't have many though I really wouldn't bother with any chemicals. Just use loads of conditioner and comb out with a nit comb.

bloody hate nits, i tried combing last night and couldn't find anything, so either i haven't got them or they're hiding

You might just be one of those people who hear the word nits or fleas and immediately start itching!!!

hopefully!!

Delacet herbal treatment for headlice kills both lice and eggs and is completely safe to use while pregnant and it is FAB.

oo thank you

If you didn't comb any out I really wouldn't bother with any lotions and potions, just keep checking when you wash your hair.

I bet Hedrin is fine when pg, it's a sort of silicon based liquid (odour free) that suffocates the headlice. you just leave it on overnight or for at least 8 hrs and repeat a week later

I have to agree with the condition and comb gang. This has always worked wonders for me and my neices. I have 4 neices that stay with me for a mth in the summer and on other occasions through the year. We spend the first few days de-nitting. It's very easy but time consuming. Last summer my dd then just 1 got them off the girls, I was furious and have been nagging them ever since. Unless you are crawling then I would recommend the comb and condition before spending money on it.

Frenchsmallfry · 13/02/2007 15:54

J2OBaby, Sorry missed your ealier post, if you didn't comb any out last night then I would be suprised if you have them. Although it takes just one adult one to start it all off. Comb for another few days, but could the itching be something else, have you changed your shampoo? Or could just be a dry scalp.

poppiesinaline · 13/02/2007 16:00

I always just treat myself anyway if the kids have them....

having long hair I find it very difficult to adequately wet comb myself and be sure I have combed everything out.

Hi there. I was given Hedrin by the lovely ladies at Boots, and am 29 weeks pg. I didn't need to use it in the end, but it worked very well on dd. I bloody hate the buggers - seem to have spent the last 8 months on and off with them.
