Is navy blue ok for girls?

Hi,

Just wondered what people's thoughts were on navy blue pushchairs for girls? I love the navy bugaboo but we don't know what we're having. Is it too boyish?? Xx

Then navy blue is perfect, it's a classy timeless colour Smile

I kind of get what you're on about, OP. For DD I originally picked a turquoise pram and had a bit of a fret about whether I'd get any stick from the pink-for-a-girl brigade. But then the order couldn't be fulfilled (sale item oversold) so had to choose again.

Thanks Lucy and Lj

When I chose a pushchair, once I had decided what sort of style / model / package I wanted, I chose according to how it would go with my style. I never ever wear pink or pastels, I would often be using the buggy on the way to and from work for the nursery run, as would DH, so we chose a black and silver McLaren.

Ditto changing bags. Unless you would normally use a bag which is pink and covered in cartoon characters, why choose that as the bag you will carry around with you?

GinIsIn · 13/11/2016 20:06

We are having a boy. Our pram features quite a bit of hot pink. are you planning to push your pram to the 1950s? It genuinely is quite an oddly dated question.

OnwardsAndUpwardsYo · 13/11/2016 20:06

In my opinion, gender neutrality is partly understanding that colours are just colours, dress the girls in pink and then go ahead and dress them in blue. And all the colours between. If you like something, you like it!

Thatwaslulu · 13/11/2016 20:06

I bought a navy pram before my DS was born. I didn't know the sex before birth so he could have been a girl - it honestly didn't occur to me. I wouldn't buy pink of any description because I really dislike pink, not for feminist reasons but because I just do.

thebloodycat · 13/11/2016 20:07

Exactly spec, I'm trying to find a none gender specific colour because I don't like very obvious gender colours but as usual Mumsneters still found fault.

Just get black or grey if you're worried? Or does it not come in black?

wobblywonderwoman · 13/11/2016 20:10

Navy would be lovely and very smart.

I went for green and it was also lovely.

thebloodycat · 13/11/2016 20:11

They do do it in black but fancied a colour. Black would be my second option for practical reasons

Dd's pram is navy blue. She has not grown a penis yet.

ByeByeLilSebastian · 13/11/2016 20:12

Black is boring. Go for the Navy, I think it'll look great.

Vixxfacee · 13/11/2016 20:12

I've just got the navy buggaboo and I'm having a boy. It's fine for either.

Heatherbell1978 · 13/11/2016 20:13

I bought a navy pushchair for DS1 so DD1 (due in February) will obviously use it too....in fact DD1 will be wearing quite a lot of navy as she'll be getting quite a few hand me downs. I think the question was ridiculous but perhaps better worded as 'is navy a gender neutral colour'? In which case, definitely yes!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 13/11/2016 20:14

Admittedly although I hate all the gendering of baby stuff, when I see a bright pink pram I assume the pram contains a girl. I would not make any assumptions about a navy pram, I would class navy as neutral.

greenfolder · 13/11/2016 20:15

People have been buying gender neutral prams for donkeys years. It's only in recent years that pink and other stuff has come in.

Pluto30 · 13/11/2016 20:16

Er... Yes?

The majority of prams tend to be navy or black. The ones I've had for my kids have been black. Couldn't care less if someone put my DD in a blue pram or my DS' in a pink one.

JoMalones · 13/11/2016 20:17

We've got the navy for our baby (don't know if girl or boy)

AnnetteKertan · 13/11/2016 20:17

It's fine and not a stupid question. I have a red pushchair, according to people who have stopped to nose at dd, red is for boys.....

Dd also wears a shitload of navy and grey. Mil asked why I keep dressing dd in boys clothes.

SpeckledyBanana · 13/11/2016 20:17

IME black shows up baby sick remarkably clearly. Possibly navy might be a bit more forgiving? (Red was.)

I did clean the kids' prams, honest.

SpeckledyBanana · 13/11/2016 20:20

-Sorry, strikeout fail there-

gingerboy1912 · 13/11/2016 20:22

Yes of course it's ok. I had boys and choose a green polka dot pram ( my oldest is 18 now) it was second hand with matching bag. I loved it, it was what I could afford and I didn't care what other people thought.

thebloodycat · 13/11/2016 20:26

Thanks to the helpful people that replied.

Why do a lot of people on here need to be so ready to attack? Even if you think what I'm asking is a stupid question I'm sure you would swear and be rude like that to a stranger in person. I feel like certain people are waiting for questions to pop up so they can send nasty replies.
