When do periods return after pregnancy

Had my DS 8weeks ago and breastfed for 4 weeks. Just wondering when my period is likely to return? This is DC2 but I can't remember when it returned after DD. Have just been told that my thyroid level is quite high so having to see a specialist. Could this be delaying my period?

Mine took 12 weeks, I didn't breastfeed after six weeks and have no health issues. They came back regular which they hadn't been before but more painful Sad

Mine came back after 8 weeks (expressed for 3 weeks). I did take morning after pill though so this could have skewed it a bit

Mine came back after 18 months, still breastfeeding.

Here's hoping we get another year of no periods, that would be fabulous Grin

13 months but I breastfed or expressed the whole time. Your thyroid could certainly be affecting your periods - have you been prescribed thyroxine? Do you know what your TSH levels are? Having said that, even when my TSH was at 17 (diagnosis) I was still having regular periods. Everyone is different.

Jenjen85 · 13/11/2016 22:33

peace only just had a blood test last week and the dr called me the next day to say my TSH level was high and he was referring me to a specialist. Not sure what to expect?

It's odd that the GP has sent you straight to a specialist without prescribing. It's quite common for your thyroid to go a bit crackers in pregnancy, and it's easily fixed. Try not to worry.

Always 2-4 weeks after ceasing breast-feeding in my case.

Pinkandwhite · 14/11/2016 02:32

About 18 months after giving birth for me.

MrsZumbaDancer · 14/11/2016 05:16

8 weeks.. gutted!

AmeliaJack · 14/11/2016 05:27

Two years for me. I'd been so enjoying not having periods that I trotted off and got a mirena shortly afterwards.

Motherfuckers · 14/11/2016 05:33

3 months, I was exclusively breast feeding. I think it was because I was young, older mums seem to take longer to get their periods back.

Jenjen85 · 14/11/2016 07:36

Well it appeats mine lasted 8 weeks as i came on my period last night
