Opinions on IKEA cots and baby furniture please!

Just wondering if anyone has bought a cot from IKEA. Opinions welcome please, done some research but wondered which ones are most popular and whether they're worth getting. Thank you!

I would not buy baby furniture as they will grow out of it just buy regular stuff.

The ikea cots looked flimsy to me but the Jonn Lewis cheapest cot looked good.

I bought an IKEA cot, can't remember the name - it has removable sides so you can use it as a cot bed and was about £40. It's done 2 children and been in constant use for about 5 years. I won't need to replace it for baby 3 does in a few weeks.

I obviously recommend it very highly!

Don't go into the kids section of ikea. You'll come out with bibs & soft toys & glove puppets & wooden kitchens & mobiles & chairs & more bibs & you get the picture (voe).

I bought the cheap cot from IKEA when my ds grew out of his Moses basket and his £££ mamas and papas corned was too big to get out of his nursery and put in our room!
It lasted 6 months with us then got loaned to family and is now back with us best £35 spent!

We've got a STUVA Cot and I would say that it doesn't look or feel flimsy at all. I like that the sides can be taken off and it can be used for a bit longer as a toddler bed. I also like the drawers underneath because it means I don't need to worry about where to store bedding or anything like that.
In addition, we've got these Trofast boxes. The unit fits perfectly into our built-in wardrobe in the nursery and means I've got enough storage space for all the clothes and toys. I can just throw it all in and close the wardrobe doors...

We brought an IKEA cot, baby is not actually here yet but it's been put together and seems very sturdy. It was the £90 which will also become a cot bed when the time comes. We did buy a more expensive mattress as in my opinion that was the more important part. My friend spent a fortune on her cot (£350 + mattress) and it doesn't look any better than the IKEA ones, each to their own though!

Our cot is Gulliver, price has increased since April 2011! It's now £55.

We've got an ikea cot. I think it's called the sundvig. Seems sturdy enough (although baby isn't born yet so no actual use) but for £90 if it lasts a year to 18 months then I'll be happy with it.

Our Ikea cot lasted 2 babies and sold on afterwards. Wish I'd kept it now! Lots cheaper than others and did the job. We got a mothercare mattress for it (make sure it's the right size). Some of the kids furniture is ok too. (And their £10 high chairs are brilliant!)

I have a gulliver, it's still good after 2 years' use and would probably last another year size wise. We used it with the side off as a co sleeper next to our hemnes bed until ds was 8 months and then put the side back on and dropped the base back down. I would definitely recommend it.

another one with an Ikea cot and it's fab - currently DC2 is making use of it and it was way more sturdy than anything we saw at John Lewis,

Another Gulliver cot owner here. I would definitely recommend it. You can choose from the in-store selection of cot mattresses which cover a range of prices, and the cot sheets and sleeping bags are excellent value too.

I don't have any experience with the cots but I would really recommend the Hemnes 8 drawer dresser from the normal furniture range rather than nursery furniture. It has loads of space for everything you'll need when they're small and the drawers are so much more practical for baby things. We also put a narrow changing mat on ours (used it side on) rather than buying a special changer. If you have a look on Pinterest you'll see loads being used in nurseries!

Yeah I've got the gulliver cot. My oldest was in it for 3 years (we bought the most expensive IKEA pocket sprung mattress for it) and my youngest is now 15 months and still going strong. We did a hack to make it into a bedside sleeper for youngest which was great. If we were having another (which we aren't) it would be fine.

You also need the antilop highchair. No other highchair comes close

I got the cheapest ikea cot. We bought it when DD2 was born and she's still in it 2 years later. You can also take off the side to make it a little bed. The antilop high chair is still going strong 5 years too. And we have the stuva furniture too. Their stuff is great.

We bought an IKEA cot (17 years ago!) that then became a toddler bed - used it for about 8 years in total and just bought new mattresses.

Yep we also have an IKEA cot, ds is nearly 3 and is still in it with the side off - we will go straight to single bed soon.
We also got the mattress from ikea and that's also brilliant - it was the most expensive one they do and it's so lovely!

Also agree with a pp, the hemnes chest of drawers looks great and is perfect height to be used as a changing table. Ds is still changed on it every day as a 2.5 yr old.
If you get it, get the foldable drawer dividers with it, fantastic for organising vests/sleepsuits/tiny socks etc

We have an IKEA cot - not sure of the name, it was fairly cheap (about £50 I think)
The side can be taken off so that it can be used as a toddler bed but we've taken the side off and pushed it up against our bed as an alternative to co-sleeping. Dd is almost 1, the cot has survived 2 moves and several take downs and put back ups and is still as sturdy as ever

Feeling positive about getting one now - just a quick question if anyone could answer - I know normal IKEA bedding can sometimes be slightly different in size, is it the same with cot bedding? As in can i only use bedding from IKEA? Or will a mattress from another shop fit in the cot too? I have a feeling someone told me IKEA cots aren't standard size, but it seems like they are? was a bit confused.

The cots in ikea are standard sized. This is probably because all the other manufacturers are doing continental sizes for cots? (If you go to mothercare, you'll see the sizes are in metric). I got my mattress from kiddicare as they were doing a great discount at the time. I also got happychick waterproof mattress protectors from amazon. While you are at ikea, don't forget to look at the fitted sheets. They are really great value. Better than the mothercare ones I got for DC1.

I got DC1's single bed fitted sheets from John Lewis because she wanted pink ones. Our fitted sheets are also from ikea, and we got a high thread count all cotton one. I much prefer the ikea ones! And I pay so much less for them too.

Ikea used to have weird sizes for bedding but have standard and continental sizes for mattresses these days. The cot matteresses are all one size though (and work with the bedding and cots).

I just wanted to pop back and say the baby furniture often sold in Aldi is really good too. We chose aldis mania highchair over ikeas as the aldi one folded down for storage. We've also got a hauck travel cot which we use downstairs for daytime naps/playpen. We liked it so much that dd has the same at both GpS houses. We have all got Ikea cot mattresses in them and they got perfectly.
