Has anyone else developed DVT or pulmonary embolisms before or during pregnancy? I've been diagnosed with bilateral PEs and am now on daily clexane injections. I'm stressing about the delivery - anyone else been through this? I had a previous thread but think I posted in the wrong place. I'm now 30 weeks. Thanks

I had a DVT during my pregnancy and was on daily clexane too. What are your main concerns re the labour? Have you discussed plan with haematologist and your obstetrician? If you've any particular questions feel free to ask.

Thanks Ms. I haven't had the appointment with the haematologist/obstetrician yet unfortunately, and my midwife doesn't seem
to have much of a clue about what this all means. I'm scared of two things - firstly being induced (i had a horrific induction with DC2) and secondly I am really worried about the risk of post-partum haemorrhage. I think I am still trying to get my head around it all as I was only diagnosed on Monday, and feel really quite let down by the support I'm getting from the medical team. How did your delivery go? Was it very medicalised?

I had a bad experience with my delivery as the obstetrics team didn't follow haematology advice and as a result I went into labour on my own and did haemorrhage afterwards which is last thing I'm sure you want to hear. But I think my main problem was I wasn't really listened to and I'd feel much more confident now in advocating for myself on the basis of what I learnt as a good result. I'm happy to give you some advice in terms of questions to ask or points to put forward when you do see the consultants. Do you have an appointment yet for haematology? In my experience it was quite soon after my DVT diagnosis.

Ms you poor thing, that must have been terrifying. to you. What was the advice they ignored? I'm hoping to have an appointment within the next fortnight - apparently it's a joint meeting with haematology and obstetrics.

Haematology advice was planned delivery between 37 and 40 weeks. We then settled at 37 weeks which he recommended as i felt my dates weren't matching with dating scans. Haematology informed me under circs obstetrics should offer me either induction or planned c section. Obstetrics were basically useless and 37 weeks came and went without even a discussion on a delivery date despite fact I was admitted and in maternity ward at the time requesting to discuss it with the consultant everyday. It was awful. I then went into labour and despite telling them I shouldn't be taking the clexane within 24 hours of birth as per haematology advice they insisted I wasn't in labour (all in my back so it wasn't registering as contractions when they checked). I went into active labour 8 hours later and so still obviously had last clexane dose in my system. There was other things too but just all round not well handled!
It was all very stressful but I do know as a result the maternity unit changed quite a few policies.

A joint consultation sounds like a really good start so from your point of view that's promising. Mine were all separate and obstetrics insisted they knew the plan which yes they probably did in theory but didn't treat me as an individual when it came to it.

I think the main thing I learnt from it is just to be really firm and insist on a plan that suits you. It was my first DC and they kept insisting I had loads of time as I'd be late not early instead of actually listening to me!
