Maternity coats - do they exist?

I don't get it - what am I supposed to wear? My current coat doesn't do up anymore and it's winter so now I need something else, but it's virtually impossible. I searched the shops, and every website I go on, they have 1x maternity coat option, mostly very casual and not suitable for work.

Do people really just buy a coat in a bigger size (or several sizes up?) To size up enough so it does up around my tummy throughout this winter it's going to be bloody ridiculous around my shoulders and arms!

When I was about 20 I accidentally bought a maternity coat, it was a beautiful black empire line corduroy coat with a removable sheepskin lined hood. I'd give my left arm for that coat now!

I got a fab coat lat year when I was pregnant. I think it was from Jojo mama bebe. It has a front panel that zips off meaning it now does me this winter as a normal coat or I can wear it with the panel and my baby in her carrier inside my coat. It was and is fab!

I got a nice grey coat from New Look when I was pregnant this time last year. It wasn't expensive and did the job!

Here we go. I got my normal size and the toggles allow you to adjust it in. My partner bought it as my Christmas present as bump and I were chilly but loathe to spend money on maternity stuff. I actuallu have 2 skirts from Jojo as well which were my most used things and still in perfect condition. Whereas the 2 things I bought from Seraphine were rubbish. Debenhams maternity was good as well. www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/2-in-1-padded-maternity-coats-b4743.html

I had this one from Jojo's last year, was smart enough for work, not the cheapest but decent quality www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/black-long-maternity-peacoat-b4741.html

I got a maternity / baby wearing parka from vertebaudet last year. It had a zip in panel for the sling to go in.

I got the black Parker last year. Came in useful after pregnancy as your bump doesn't go straight away

My link didn't work stupidly. I got mine from h&m. They have a few coats

Sittingintheshade · 01/11/2016 18:06

Got a black coat from next in my normal size (£50) and you can buy a maternity panel for £8 to zip into it. I'm happy with it so far Smile

Seraphine and Isabella Oliver have nice ones but ££.

fruityb · 01/11/2016 18:09

I got a really nice grey one from new look - had a lovely collar and belted up. Wore that during the colder months and it was very snug. May even get away with it now I'm no longer pregnant.

Penelopeontherun · 01/11/2016 20:21

If you search for 'maternity coats' on ASOS, you'll find quite a few that are suitable for work. There isn't a specific 'maternity coat' category, so they're easy to miss!

TipBoov · 01/11/2016 20:23

New look and asos have some.

runningwithbob · 01/11/2016 20:37

How about one of these....

Thanks all, need a size 18 coat & that seems to really narrow down the options! I did find one I liked on ASOS but sold out in that size. Will keep looking!

I got one recently from H&M, a black parka type coat and it's really warm. H&M XL should be ok, New Look also go up to a size 20 in their maternity range I think.

ConvincingLiar · 02/11/2016 07:08

I have one from jojo and one from eBay (brand new with tags). Last pregnancy was in the summer so I borrowed a raincoat from my mum. As I'll be pregnant over the winter I fancied having a specific maternity coat.

ConvincingLiar · 02/11/2016 07:09

If you might want to have baby in a sling, it's worth thinking about how that'll work later.
