Hey guys, I wanted to start a really honest thread about what it's like after giving birth. There's so many things no one tells you about pregnancy which would have been helpful to know before hand (heartburn, skin tags etc) and I'm wondering what I've not been told about what it's like after ?!

Oh yes, wind! Absolutely no strength to hold it in so it just comes out! Haha! I have regained the ability to hold it in now. Smile

It suddenly hit me how much weight I'd put on without the round bump there and I'll be honest, it really, really shocked me (although in hindsight, I was also covered from head to toe in fluid retention!) They had full length mirrors in the showers at the hospital and I remember standing there looking at my weird floppy, saggy belly, my huge plaster where my c-section wound was, the blood dribbling down my legs and crying my wee eyes out. It didn't feel like my body at first.

BUT - a year on, I lost it all my weight plus another 2.5 stone, and feel bloody fantastic. I honestly have never loved or appreciated my body as much as I do now it bears the scars and marks of childbirth. I even love my less than perky boobs (which have shrunk due to breastfeeding - I always hated how big they were before!)

Don't be scared of it, it will be just fine! :)

Oh god, I just followed the DM link and had a read of the comments. Are they real or do the DM just have their journalists (I use that term loosely) make a load up?

AyeAmarok · 26/10/2016 11:27

Urgh. Like I didn't despise that rag enough already.

Flingmoo · 26/10/2016 11:45

Can't believe no one has mentioned the peeling a post shower towel off your nipples when feeding is like rubbing them with broken glass!

And God, the after pains! After #3 they made me want to vomit! Sad

Neverknowing · 26/10/2016 22:52

Thanks guys!
Also, I guess that's my fifteen mins of fame wasted Sad

Who bled for two weeks? Shock I bled for TWO MONTHS! Constantly wearing pads made the insides of my thighs sore. I didn't know about the ice packs with my first either (was given episiotomy, had internal tear and two lacerations, all stitched without my knowledge mind you!) The stitches at the top of where was cut came apart! I didn't know that could happen, so I now have to have further repair after I have my 2nd, nearly 5 years later. The first poo was definitely scary as fuck! Felt like I had to physically hold myself together incase I split open!! I can't remember if it was before or after I saw the damage and stitches in the mirror when I hadn't been told about the extent!

I have faint, non-visable stretchmarks, they don't bother me. I also have a brown pigmentation of an old chickenpox scar from when I was a baby that has never gone back to normal. I was upset about a deflated, squidgy HAIRY belly afterwards but, little did I know it would go back to normal in a couple months. I still wear bikinis. Nothing else really bothers me as haven't noticed much difference.
So yeah just the external area of my vag depresses me, causes soreness and discomfort. Hopefully it'll improve after the repair.

SeventeenRainbeaus · 27/10/2016 23:38

Having stitches and an internal exam to look/check injuries/bleeding (I assume that's what she was doing! Hmm ) was horrendously traumatizing especially since I was given no warning! I needed therapy too because of the treatment, yay!
Oh and my tailbone. It's never been the same. I have to sit on it now. And don't think it helped that I was made to lay on the bed to deliver! Which I didn't want to do.

Blackfellpony · 28/10/2016 17:24

Seventeen your post reminded me of the post birth exam Shock

I remember nearly screaming as much as I screamed in birth. She literally raked around with a dry swab to check for damage and it was agony...did this happen to anyone else?!

gunting · 28/10/2016 19:34

Black yeah they did it to me too. The woman doing the stitches had a go at me for shouting and told me to lay off the G&A. It bloody hurt!

Neverknowing · 29/10/2016 07:46

Thanks for all your replies! I had my little girl on Thursday and your advice is definitely helping. Good luck to everyone else who's pregnant and watching this, all the horror sort of melts away in comparison to the awe of your baby! No one warned me of how in awe I would be, I guess that's what I'd add to this post! Thanks again everyone Flowers
