HCG drop but heartbeat

I am 6wks 3days. Had bloods drawn on Thurs last week and again on Sat. Got a call yesterday afternoon to come in immediately as levels had "plateaud" and when I got there was in fact told they had dropped slightly and they were very sorry etc but needed to do a scan to confirm. I was absolutely devastated as you can imagine. Then the scan showed a normal heartbeat and they were stunned. I have to wait now for another scan to check hb and growth progressing normally. Has anyone had a similar experience with a good outcome and a weird Hcg 'blip'?Thanks in advance xx

Might sound stupid but could they have switched the blood tests by accident?!

Could have been a twin pregnancy where you've lost a twin? That's the only thing I can think of. What a wonderful surprise for you!

I did have this yes, I had scan after scan couldn't see anything and hcg levels never doubled as they should to start with then they stopped then dropped slightly.

I got a phone call with the "sorry we think you miscarrying" I was upset and had to wait 48 hours for a scan and repeat blood tests.

I went in while dh was parking the car expecting to be told the obvious and in actual fact they found 2 heartbeats!!

They are now nearly 5

Have you had IVF, is that why they're doing hcg so early? Fwiw it's not the levels themselves that are the indicator it's the doubling time of the hcg and that tends to start as particularly high with twins. Do you know what it was?

Wishing you the best, I remember what you're going through and it's a dark tunnel, but there's hope. My first Hcg after a 2 blast transfer was 29 and I was told to prepare for the worst and I started spotting but one stuck, and the outcome is snoring loudly as I type...

Thank you. No, not ivf it is my first pregnancy. I have had some residual pelvic pain from a laparoscopy to remove fluid from a ruptured ovarian cyst a few mths back so they were keeping a close eye on me, hence the bloods. Trying to stay positive x

Just an update - we are both still hanging in there. Prognosis guarded, being scanned weekly. But fingers crossed xx

Hi all, I hate threads where the thread just stops with no resolution....unfortunately I lost that pregnancy at 8 weeks. BUT got my BFP this week again so really really hope all good this time. If hcg is not doing what it should then there really seems to be no two ways about it. Am not going to check it this time (not that I chose actively to check it last time, the hospital did) Just go with the flow.

Sorry you lost your first baby every pregnancy is different so you have every chance of success with this one
