Pregnancy

How did your pregnancy duration compare to your mum's?

I've been wondering whether gestational duration is hereditary - I haven't found a lot of evidence either way, although there is some suggestion that it could be, so I'm turning to anecdote :)

Those of you who have children already- how did the length of your pregnancy compare to your mum's? Or even your MIL's?

secretly hoping it's hereditary on the baby's part instead of mine and he takes after his dad to arrive 10 days early instead of me and ALL my siblings who were 2 weeks late and had to be induced

My mum had 4. All arrived 2 weeks late having to be induced.

I've got 2 and I had spontaneous labour, 1st on my due date, 2nd two days early.

DM was exactly 40 weeks with me, MIL was 41+6 with DH.

DD1 turned up at 38+1.

Both me and my sister were around a week overdue. My first was 10 days late but contractions started a week late, then had a slow labour. Currently pregnant and hoping to be slightly less late this time Smile However my sister was 17 days late!!! She was induced a couple of times which didn't work at first so only correlation there really is tendency to be late....

Mum had me ten weeks early, I am currently 34+2.

Both times my mum went overdue by around a week.

I had DD at 39+4

My Mum had me exactly on 40+0 (I still get v anxious about being not being late for things Grin).

My younger sister was born at 41+5 though (still late for everything).

My DC1 was born at 34+1, and DC2 at 38+0. So not much correlation there.

My Mum and I did both have pre-eclampsia during our first pregnancies though, not sure if that has any genetic component?

My mum had both me and my sister 2 weeks early.
My DD was born at exactly 38 weeks (waters broke at 37+5)
And I'm now 37+6 with DS...so I'll let you know Wink

DM had both me and my brother a few days past our due dates (around 5/6 days after, I think).

DH was also around a week late.

But my DD was born at 39+5.

I was born at 38+2 (only child).
DH was born at 26 weeks (only child).
Our DD was born at 34 weeks.
Currently 37 weeks with DD2 which feels ridiculously late!

DM had my DS 3 days before due date (induced due to high BP), and I was born at 37 weeks. Currently 36weeks so hoping im similar, minus the high BP obviously Confused!!

roomba lol at you always being on time! I'd really love to give birth on my due date as it's Halloween and I can't help thinking that would be very cool Smile

It makes sense that the speed of labour could be hereditary. That'd be me fucked though, my mum's were all long and complicated (the longest was 72 hours) and she had 3 9lb+ babies. Mind, I suspect she had undiagnosed gestational diabetes. Mine is diagnosed and treated so maybe I'll escape the same fate...

I was born on my due date. DH was at least 42 weeks (he says he was comfy!).

DD (first baby) was 40+6 (and I had pre-eclampsia so was a bit of an emergency). We were originally told she was due on the 10th, then it changed to the 5th. She came on the 11th but very early so I like to think she was sort of on time...

Well, I was born at 41+5 and so was my son. My mum and I had quite similar labours too (although central London in 2016 is a bit better-resourced than bank holiday rural north of England in 1981 so I had better luck getting an EMCS than mum did).

Having said that, I'm an only child, and I only have one baby. I'm sure if me or mum had others it's pretty unlikely they'd all be born at 41+6!

Mum - well overdue both times - 40+10, 40+14 (induced)

MIL - overdue both times

Me - 2 prem babies - 34+0, 36+6 (no apparent reason either time)

So much for genetics Hmm

I was born at 41+3, my brother at 41. My sons were born at 42+1, 41+3 and 40+4 (that last one felt 'early' to us, dh and I were very surprised when I went into labour as we'd not expected it for another week or so).

Going over the edd is the norm in my mum's family, I was whining to her when I was 10 days over with ds1 and she reminded me that all the women in the family went well past the edd. She could only think of two occasions when women had given birth before the edd, and one of those was an induction for big baby at 38 weeks (he was huge, over 9lb, I wince to think how big he'd have been if my auntie had gone full term).

As for length of labour though, no, me and Mum are polar opposites. She was in active labour for 24 hours before she had me by crash section and with my brother it was 14 hours. My longest labour was 2 hours 45 minutes. She was, you might say, envious ;)

I arrived two weeks late after a crash section due to distress. My younger siblings were planned sections so only me to base it on Grin DH was born in his due date.

All three of mine were overdue; 41+1, 40+6, 41+3.

I think this is it...

My mum

  1. 36 weeks
  2. 38/39 weeks
  3. 38/39 weeks

Me
DD at 40 weeks exactly.

2 sisters had theirs (2 each) around their due dates, I don't think any were later, but possibly a couple a week early.
