Dear all,

This is my first post this forum. Today we had our 20 week scan and all appeared normal until the end when the sonographer mentioned that she was slightly concerned by a very subtle observation near the top of the babies spine. Enough to refer us to a specialist consultant next week. I'm no anatomist but essentially, you can see bones either side of the spinal chord like a zip. It looked like a single bone on just one side of the zip looked different perhaps absent. She said that it may be nothing but she could not tell us the prognosis. Of course there's now an aweful few days of waiting and worrying until our scan next week. I just wanted to know whether anyone else has possibly had anything similar and what it was (or even better, if you had something like this that turned out to be nothing when you saw the consultant).

Thank you! Just realised that we've ended up with a long and non-descript username. I'm Marie.

I've spent the last couple of hours trying to discover anything I can on the internet. Of course I know it's futile. I'm just going to try not to think about it over the weekend and cross everything.

Sorry i cant help either but im thinking of you and hoping that all is well.
Step away from google, in my experience it loves to give worst case scenario and there's nothing you can do until the scan.
Take care Flowers

Dr Google is not your friend.

I had a similar experience, but with placenta and cervix at 20 weeks, by the time I'd seen my consultant I'd convinced myself we were going to lose the baby. I even asked at the appointment, will the baby make it?

I really caused myself a huge amount of stress and upset with the constant searching, and should have waited until I saw the expert.

Good luck and I hope your appointment comes soon x
