Incentive manger or am I just being overly sensitive? 😔

Hi ladies.

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and had to tell work 3 weeks ago due to sickness.

Yesterday having a chat with my male manager who is normally the nicest person to talk too. I mentioned about training some people to do my job while I'm on leave (I knows it's 7 month off it it will fly by) while I was talking he butted in and said you might. Not even want to come back to work. He said it twice even though I made it clear I will be coming bk. This is my second pregnancy and now feel worried that I'm not wanted to come back.

am I being silly and Hormonal. This have been quite lately at work and now I'm worried sick 😔

He shouldn't presume what you will or wouldn't do but don't look into it too much. If he says it again just say 'there is no way I wouldn't come back, I love it here'. Hopefully that will shhh him!

Make sure your contract is water tight! You would not be the first women they pushed out when she was due back.

Have you got a employee hand book that has your maternity rights in it?

He's right, you might not. If it's a small company then, rightly or wrongly, they're not paying to train someone who is on maternity leave because it could be a collasal waste of money. If the training is whilst you are on leave you won't be doing it anyway so don't worry about it. You know you're coming back, do it then.

In any event - it doesn't really matter if he wants you back, they have to accept you back due to legislation BUT some arsehole employers will try and make things difficult so you have no choice to leave - regarding work hours ect..

I'm not tying to scare you but make sure your contracts are up today and your part of a union.

Agree with making sure you're protected legally.

However I wonder if your manager feels it's too soon to be discussing cover? A lot can change in 7 months and you're in very early pregnancy so it is quite unusual to be discussing maternity cover at this stage. I really think you should wait and see how your pregnancy progresses. You might feel fine and want to work close to your due date and then decide to come back early etc.

I'd hold off on discussing this until much later on.

My manager doesnt want me back either lol. Dont really care what he wants, not up to him!

He keeps telling everyone I'm leaving in December. Baby isnt due until Feb 7th. I just ignore him now lol told him many times I will start leave mid January. As i work at a desk and didnt see the point of leaving to early. Rather the time off with my baby than pre birth. I work in sales and target has been removed. So i think I am just an inconvenience being around ... oh well.

Depending in finances I intend on taking the first 12 months, insuring my job for my return.

Your manager may have been making a flippant comment without thinking. I know I'm a lot more sensitive now than I was pre-pregnancy and it's hard to keep perspective at times so I completely empathise. Be kind to yourself though, you're well protected by employment law
