Today I've been admitted to hospital and told my baby will need to be delivered in next 24 hours due to poor growth and almost no waters. Baby is only measuring at 1lb 2oz with a less than 50% chance of survival. My husband and I are devastated and terrified. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Keeping Bea in my thoughts - she sounds incredible

Titchypanda · 21/11/2016 00:39

Today we had an hour out of the incubator for Mummy and Bea cuddles! She was settled for about half of it. She cries a lot and is very cranky near feed times! She's still on cpap and gases are ok. The steroids are being reviewed Tuesday, so the big test will be how she does on cpap without them. There's such a back log in special care, that none of the babies in hdu that are ready to go up can go, and in turn, none of the icu babies on cpap can move to hdu as no beds. Bea is now in the hdu queue. Although there are at least 3 in front of her to go first and if she ends up back on the vent, she will have to stay in icu.

She weighs 860g at moment, hopefully she will keep gaining. My milk didn't come in, so I made the decision to stop expressing, as I wasn't getting more than 4ml-6ml a day and she's on 6ml an hour.

RTKangaMummy · 21/11/2016 01:50

Thank you for sharing the lovely photo of you with Bea on world prematurity day SmileSmileSmile

Really hope she continues with CPAP

The bed/cot organisation must be difficult for you and the staff to figure out which baby goes where

The good thing about having a baby in NNU ITU is that when they come home they are really set for 4 hourly feeds cos they are not fed until the time on the chart so when DS came home he was very easy to arrange things around cos he was so much used to a routine of feeding etc

She is doing well with weight gain cos she has put on 20g since last update, hasn't she?

What a beautiful mother and daughter photo! xx

sailawaywithme · 21/11/2016 04:20

Sending you prayers from across the pond. I am rooting for you both. My friend recently gave birth at 23 weeks and her daughter spent 125 days in the NICU. They were told to expect the worst, but baby is doing great. I so hope that your story is the same as theirs.

Titchy, you are not alone on the breastfeeding issue. I pumped like mad for weeks and never got more than 5 - 10mls at a time. I gave up last week - I felt like I was paying the wretched pump more attention than my baby!

I found this book very helpful - my hospital has copies for parents to borrow, might be worth asking if yours has anything similar?

Such a beautiful picture!

Titchypanda · 21/11/2016 13:50

Thanks all. Alice, I've read that and didn't find it very helpful. I found it was mostly aimed at 28w and above. It also gives advice that is the exact opposite of what the nurses tell us. So we decided to just follow the nurses advice and Bea lets us know, very loudly if she doesn't like something!

Have just read the whole thread. You are so strong titchy and you, your husband and Bea are doing so well. Will keep you in my prayers and hope she continues to flourish x

Titchypanda · 21/11/2016 23:00

I appreciated the suggestion Alice, sorry if I sounded ungrateful x

Congratulations and I hope that your little baby continues to grow and thrive xxx

Bea still on cpap and coming out for cuddles. She likes having her head rubbed again! She still has a story every night with Daddy or me. Her oxygen and pressures are starting to creep up as steroids have been reduced. We're trying to remain positive and hopefully she can stay on cpap. The doctor and nurses think I have some form of post natal depression as I am unable to function unless at hospital. I literally don't know what to do with myself when I'm not there. There hasn't been any mental health support at all, so I'm not suprised. We keep battling on though!
