Felix.

Sorry for another name thread but we're really struggling to find a name we like and this seems to be one of the few names we agree on.

TIA.

Some names are more appealing when you think of them as small children, but when they are older there not so cute.

No link to any names here, just saying. I work in travel and have to take names as in passports for bookings, youd be surpised at how many men, dont use thier first given names when they speak to me.

NadineBaggott · 07/02/2007 23:12

oh great! are your neighbours better than the last lot? has your lo settled?

ps, I'm a celebrity beauty editor

Aloha · 07/02/2007 23:14

I do know a felix whose sister is Tabitha...and I did think 'cats' about that!
But what the hell, call your child a name you like.

wotzsaname · 07/02/2007 23:14

NadineBaggott what you on about? cross post ?

melpomene · 07/02/2007 23:19

Felix is a cute name, but needs a strong personality to carry it off IMO.

I know 2 toddlers called Felix.

Or have you thought about Alex as an alternative? Sounds similar, but doesn't have the cat associations.

wummin · 07/02/2007 23:23

I dont doubt your "perfectly fine" with peoples opinions, I gave you mine and you didnt like it! Felix and Oscar are popular middle class yummy mummy names and im sure the "majority" will agree! Subjective!

Tinker · 07/02/2007 23:23

Of course, pentapetastic women (still haven't got a bleedin' clue who you are though Xmas Smile

Lwatkins · 08/02/2007 00:19

Not a fan of Felix (sorry) but like others have said it is your choice so go with what you feel is right! I think a lot of the time children do grow into their names anyway

brimfull · 08/02/2007 00:32

sorry but it makes me think of a smarmy ,smooth talking man about town.

You did askk for honesty

nearlyfourbob · 08/02/2007 03:56

Devon is luncheon meat in NZ - so apt for a cat!

My MIL said that Bob was a dog's name, specifically a sheepdog. He was also the dodgy swearing and sweating English teacher in "Teachers", and how I used to say I'd done a poo when I was little. However I liked the name so I didn't care about any of these things.

If you like Felix, have Felix. Who knows what names are going to be used in marketing in the next 20 years, at least you know that Felix is cat food and they will defend the name vigourously and it won't end up being a brand of condom or something.

plummymummy · 08/02/2007 04:16

I like it. It does make me think of cats, but hey, cats are cool

ghosty · 08/02/2007 05:45

I used to teach a Felix ... about 10 years ago now maybe ... I can still see his face - good kid, cheeky but sound. Was an expert yo yo-er
Having said that, I taught at a private prep school so, um ....

I like the name.

cheekychick · 08/02/2007 06:28

sorry u can get felix cat food in oz too...its the name of our black n white cat.

but hey if thats what you like who cares what we all think

eidsvold · 08/02/2007 06:33

makes me think of a cat too - sorry.

sorkycake · 08/02/2007 06:39

I personally think "cat", but if you like it then you choose it.
I do think that it's important to note that acceptability of names depends on where you live, oop north Felix is a bit of a poncey name whereas in the South it maybe wholly acceptable IYSWIM.

squiffy · 08/02/2007 07:40

If I was introduced to a Barrister called Felix I think I would struggle not to snort, but if introduced to a photographer or a fashion designer called Felix I wouldn't bat an eyelid. On that basis I would be careful going with this one, it doesn't fit all situations. I always think Max is a good posh name that fits everywhere. Or Fergus or Finlay if you like the 'F's'.

MrsMcJnr · 08/02/2007 10:37

I like it Bubbaloo - I was at school with a really nice guy called Felix

Mumpbump · 08/02/2007 10:39

I like Felix. We considered it for dh, but I snogged a guy called Felix years ago so thought it probably wasn't apprpriate!!

Twiglett · 08/02/2007 10:45

its horrible

its a cat's name

SleepIsForTheWeak · 08/02/2007 10:46

very cool!

Pinotmum · 08/02/2007 10:53

It goes well with your ds's name imo. I was told dd's name was a cat's name and ds's a dog's name. We liked them anyway

sunnysideup · 08/02/2007 11:01

Felix is a lovely name.

Don't be put off by lots of people who obviously sit and watch TV adverts!
Do you care what they think?

snig · 08/02/2007 11:10

felix is a really nice name, so waht about the cat food thing.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 08/02/2007 11:10

I like it
