Sack and yolk but no baby - 6 weeks - What's happening?

I had a private scan today at 6 weeks, no reason other than being really impatient to see if everything's ok, no bleeding or anything. There was a pregnancy sack visible and a yolk, but no baby or fetal pole visible. The scanning woman said it might just be too early to see the baby, but it could be it's not a viable pregnancy. Has anyone had this? Or can anyone advise what the likely situation is?

I'm feeling really tired and sick!

I should say it was an internal scan.

I think its probably too early. Are you sure of your dates? And I suppose that's why people don't have scans that early because it just causes anxiety.

I had a scan at 5 weeks and 4 days (after a bleed) - all that was visible was 2 sacs and yokes. Nothing else.

I went back at 7 weeks and 4 days and saw 2 heart beats. Its tough, but its just a waiting game. Good luck.

I haven't experienced it myself but you only need to read stories on here to see that it is fairly common...6 weeks is so early and you only need to be a few days out on dates and you're closer to five weeks which is too early to see anything. Keep thinking positive Flowers

Thank you.

My friend had a similar scan and a week later a heartbeat was visible. I don't think anyone can tell you at this point Flowers

I had exactly this at my six week scan. My dates were spot on (6 plus 1) as it was an IVF pregnancy. Unfortunately the pregnancy did not progress. If you are not 100% on your dates it could go either way. I'm sorry you have this worry.

I had a scan at six weeks, by my dates. And there was a 2mm sac, that's all.
Three weeks later, they said I was 6 weeks and there was a baby with a heartbeat and we still have a pic of him.

Thanks for all the responses. The sack is 10mm. I could be a few days out on dates so will just wait and see. Hopefully will have good news on another scan in a week or so.

OP my 2 sacs at 5+4 were 10mm and 9mm - so (the power of positive thinking) I would say you're a couple of days out and you're not actually 6 weeks yet.

Thank you namechange15. I'm not sure the date my LMP started and also don't always ovulate on day 14 - that varies quite a lot and I have no idea when it was this time, so that's definitely a possibility. Thanks so much.

I had this at 5weeks 6days by my dates and we only seen an empty sac measuring 6 weeks. I was told blighted ovum and to return in 1 week. In that week my symptoms got worse, I began vomiting and was really tired. After 1 week I was rescanned and a healthy 7 week fetus. He's 6 now

Thanks Nikki.

My sister had to go back a week later and all was good but that first week with the worry of the scan and the bleeding was horrible. Her baby was completely healthy it was just her pregnancy that was awful.
