I'm 31 weeks and it feels like I've I've been suffering from thrush since the start of this pregnancy, and am really fed up.
My GP has prescribed Canesten cream. Just as I think it's cleared up, I stop using it, but then it's back with a venegance

Can you not use a canestan pessary I used this in late pregnancy and was told it's fine.

bananaloaf · 04/02/2007 22:41

natural yogurt? though i dont know in pregancy

Frizbe · 04/02/2007 22:43

yep natural yog on a tampon will do the trick.

bandstand · 04/02/2007 22:46

there is somehing else, is it Dicofenac? can't remember, there are previous thread aplenty on thrush

prettymum · 04/02/2007 22:46

live yoghurt containing lactobacilli, the lactic acid in the yoghurt prevents growth of thrush when applied directly to skin

Beauregard · 04/02/2007 22:54

I second what ledodgy said.
I was told the same thing.

hoxtonchick · 04/02/2007 22:56

you definitely can & should use a canestan pessary. i did in late pg too.

lanismum · 04/02/2007 23:06

really feel for you, have had thrush on and off since 11 weeks, am now 30 weeks, i have used canesten duo (cream and oral pill) it went for about 5 days but came back worse than ever, and just bought the pessary last week and so far, its not returned.........def give it a go!

Snips · 04/02/2007 23:12

I am 32 weeks and had it really badly about four weeks ago. The pessaries sorted it. Have you tried them?

sunshinestarr · 04/02/2007 23:22

also limit sugar and yeast in your diet this encourages candida growth, drink plenty of water.

i have also found rather than eat and use heaps of natural yoghurt go and get you some acidophilus tablets helpful.

avoid soap i find a product by ego called pinetarsil very soothing stops the itching and the burning and is useful for heaps of other stuff as well

Thank you everyone - I now have hope

Will go back to docs and try a pessary, as well as the natural remedies.

I had thrush while pregnant and canesten didnt work at all for some reason - what did work was a few drops of tea tree and a few of lavender in a bowl of warm water, sort of sloshed over the area a couple of times a day. Found it on a natural remedy site on t'internet and it did the trick - might be worth a go?

annobal · 05/02/2007 18:16

I have same problem and have been taking a really strong acidophillus (8 billion) which seems to be doing the trick. Also, steer clear of dairy products, wheat products and sweet treats (doesn't really leave much does it ).
