Hi Ladies, I am 18 weeks pregnant and sometimes not thinking. This morning my three year old who weighs 35 pounds (2 1/1 stone) came into my bedroom. Since it was very early I was very tired and without thinking while laying down flat (not sitting up) I picked her up off the floor, over my body, and into the bed next to me. I did not hurt myself at all but am very very worried about my baby. I am not very good with how the body works so need your help. Could this in any way have hurt my baby. Many many thanks.

I'm sure your baby will be fine (just my pov not a medical assessment obviously) Just be careful as when you are pregnant you can injure yourself easily - the relaxin that is produced during pregnancy makes you more supple ready for the baby but can also cause back/pelvic problems. Lift properly!!!

Lifting something whilst sitting (or lying!) is not very good for your back
info here
The tips is for any lifting, not just when pregnant is to lift using your leg muscles - so you need to get into the habit of bending your knees, NOT leaning over & bending your back

Thanks ladies. I do realise that I should never lift that way and am very good about it normally. I was just so tired that I didn't think this time which is why I am so worried about wether or not this could hurt my baby.

It isn't going to hurt your baby!

It just might hurt your back a bit if you do it all the time

There is nothing wrong with lifting and doing hard work during a normal pregnancy - but you should always try to lift with your knees rather than your back, whether you are pregnant or not!
