Prepping for baby

Hi all,

So many people are telling me to prepare for baby to arrive by buying nappies, wet wipes etc every time I go shopping. As this is baby #1 I don't have a clue which brands are worth paying more for. Are pampers nappies worth the cost compared to Sainsburys or boots brands? Also advise on sizes would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I tried about a dozen nappy brands for a parenting magazine trial and found they were all fine for my baby. I buy whatever's cheapest wherever I'm shopping. Aldi ones are good. Only advantage of pampers was that there was more variety in the pictures on the outside so I could talk to the baby about them.

I rarely used water wipes as they're usually at least twice the price of unfragranced own brand wipes. My baby is find with everything. I didn't much like the smell of huggies.

I agree you shouldn't buy too much now. If money is tight, perhaps save cash each week in order to budget. It's not as if you'd be earning any interest.

I tried quite a few brands of nappies with DS and it was only Pampers that really worked well for us. We're having a DD this time so I won't stock up too much in case they're not right for her. I got a starter set when Pampers were half price.

We were told the hospital policy was cotton wool and water but when a midwife saw us actually using them with our very large baby she laughed and gave us some wipes! I'll definitely be stocking up on wipes when I see them on special offer, pampers sensitive. Though Aldi wipes are good too.

The other thing I would stock up on is maternity pads. You need more than you can possibly imagine and it's not something you want to run out of.

I agree with not stock piling the nappies. As a new mum, it's important to have a list of the ultimate stuffs you and your baby will need later on.
Stroller, nappies, nappy bags, play mats, baby clothes, breast pads, breast pump, and more. (Check Pregnancy Checklist here- www.bubhub.com.au/hubbub-blog/pregnancy_baby_nursery_checklist/) Most of my DD's stuffs were bought from Babyography- www.babyography.net.au/CNP-Brands-Nursery-Products . In case you're wondering.

I hope this helps! :D
