Dopplers

When did everyone start using Dopplers and when did you first hear babies heartbeat? No sure to get one as mixed reviews X

I started using one (angel sounds) when I was about 14 wks I think. I listened to lots of YouTube videos before I attempted to listen in so I knew what to listen for. Once you can tell the difference between the placenta noise and the heartbeat (yours and babies) it's wonderful.

On the cautious side, sometimes it can be hard to find and this is why midwives don't like you having them, incase it sends you into a panic. Also they can offer false reassurance later on, for example, if reduced movement is noticed but heartbeat is heard, some ladies wouldn't seek advice and it means things can be missed.

I personally bought one to give myself piece of mind after having 2 mc. I wanted it to keep me sane until I started feeling movements. I'm now feeling some movements so I don't feel I need to listen (but still do at the moment!).

If you feel it will panic you, leave them alone. If you can stay calm, go for it.
If I struggled to hear, I'd leave it awhile before trying again. Best of luck x

It's more just for piece of mind I am only 6 weeks so still really early I used it with my little boy but as you said once he started moving I rarely used it just reassures me.... X

In that case I don't see the harm in it! My midwife doesn't approve but was still supportive as she understood I needed some kind of reassurance.
I usually listen right before bed and think it's lovely to hear before you drift off to sleep.

Yeh I think they don't approve as we aren't trained in that field and not to confuse our heart beat with babies but I've purchased one and not going to use for a while but your right nothing better than listening to your little one best feeling ever

I found a heartbeat at 9 weeks. Just make sure you have a relaxed attitude towards it and don't worry if you don't find a heartbeat.

If your going to go for it and listen in, just familiarise yourself with each different sound. Really makes the difference!

Yeh u have bad anxiety so I am trying to be more positive and not get myself worked up about it but only 6 weeks so still a little bit to wait but in a way I can't wait to here it

If you struggle with anxiety, it's probably a better idea to stay away from the doppler! Stay away from anything that may trigger the anxiety as it's really not worth it.

When I was pregnant I used a Doppler that my friend gave me...after 13 week scan when saw baby, heartbeat etc but before I felt baby start to move at 19 weeks. Gave me reassurance in the interim period but as I had MC in previous pregnancy I was much more on edge and felt needed the reassurance, luckily found the heartbeat quickly every time. I only used once or twice a week and as soon as I felt baby move I stopped as its better to concentrate on the kicks I think. Pros and cons to using one for sure.
