ok so i'm about 5 weeks pg, the doctor says 'you'll have your 12 week scan and i'll see you when your 16 weeks'. is that it? don't they want to do any blood tests or anything? no medical advice until 12 weeks?

Make sure you're taking folic acid and eating healthily.

where are you??
I've always been 'booked in' by the midwives
shortly after I have found out, they do fullbloods and all the rst of it and start your notes, then you wait till your 12 week scan

i'm in Hull. Its been 6 years since the last time, so i don.t know if its all changed.

Both times I got all the blood tests done at the booking in appointment with the 12 week scan.

1st time the dr gave me folic acid as 1st baby was a surprise. 2nd baby I'd been taking it for about 3 months before falling pregnant as she was planned.

Midwives don't want to even see you for a while yet though do they? Maybe they do, sorry, I may be talking crap, try calling them.

yeah, maybe, i feel i need more imfo, i've got a kitten, i'm still smoking, i've got flu and want night nurse, although i pretty sure i'm not allowed it! all these questions-no answers!

it varies from place to place but where i am,once youve booked in with the mw/gp,thats it till 12 weeks.i had bloods taken at 12 weeks also.

another thing, do i keep quiet about it at work? lifting heavy things? when do i tell my 6 year old?

i didnt read your op properly...i am in cumbria and here you have a booking appt with the mw first(at my gp practise its a soon as you find out ur preg,but in others you have to wait till week 10)where shee goes through everything with you such as smoking,drinking,any problems with previous pregnancies etc.

i found that with this pregand my previous one ,i had to tell my older 2 children pretty much straight away as they wanted to know why i kept being sick and falling asleep..and shouting at them for no reason

I wasn't working when I got pregnant so not sure about that bit but you should avoid heavy lifting.

I told my 4 year old and her first sister after I was past 12 weeks just in case but this time when I fell pregnant she was 6 and I told her about a week after I found out which was when I was 7 weeks. I think it depends on the child.

I don't think you can take night nurse, not sure what is in it but you should only have paracetemol unless told by the doctor to take something else.

Avoid cat poo so if it is a house cat then someone else should ideally deal with the litter try or use gloves when you handle it.

If you want to give up smoking then go for it but don't punish yourself if you can't.

above all, take care of yourself, try and eat healthily and take folic acid if you can.

Cogratulations and feel free to ask anything else.

I will check the thread tommorow as I'm going to bed now. I am due today with my third but noghtin is happening yet grrrr
I'm just knackered lol
and if it makes you feel any better I'm still smoking

no worries, i so know that i shouldn't be! i'm feeling very stressed at the mo, which is making me smoke more, and then getting more stressed from the guilt! the thing is my dd has got a very big mouth and the whole world would know after 10 mins so may keep quiet a bit longer thanks for all your input x

its difficult to think about giving up smoking when it hasnt even sunk in that you're pregnant.i found with my first 4 that i couldnt stand fags from 6 weeks when the ms started.this time,though,i have only managed to cut down to 2 a day

trinity-hope something happens soon.ive still got 5 weeks to go

2 a day? that is brilliant, well done, although you not have completley stopped, you've done well, better than my smoking more than normal! although i have changed to a 'light' version. do you think that is any better?

Hi, I told my work straight away when I found out I was PG, was told by work NOT to lift anything NOT to climb ladders and NOT to stretch to much!! these are all health and safety issues which your work place have to take in to consideration!!

good morning, that was nice to see Trinity, thank you, just logged in. had to go jump my mum's car off this morning cos the battery was dead, they'd been camping(don't ask!)so only just got chance to sit down, i'm ok, smoking loads got flu symptoms but having paracetomol every 4 hours, apparantly you cant even have throat sweets when pg, anyone know if this is correct? suppose the cig's arent helping

I also have a stinking cold, asked the pharmacist in Sainsburys yesterday about Lemsip and got told ONLY paracetemol.

I did however make myself a hot honey and lemon drink last night.

Put lots of honey in a mug, add boiling water and a slice of lemon.

Last time I only told a couple of people at work when I found out as it was just before the Xmas party and they would have wondered why I was not drinking. We told our families on Christmas day that our main pressies was due in August. I had my 12 week scan at the end of January and took a tin of biscuits in the following day and put the scan pic on top of the tin. I was always first in, so as everyone else came in I said "there are biscuits on the table, the reason is on top of the tin"

This time I have only told those one the websites I am on (this and netmums.com) and a very close friend. My DD will find out next week when I go to see the midwife as she will be on half term holiday then.

THANKS, HONEY AND LEMON IT IS THEN! THATS A NICE WAY TO TELL PEOPLE, NOT SURE IF IT WOULD BE THE RIGHT WAY FOR ME THOUGH, SINCE EVERYONE AT WORK KNOW I'VE JUST SPLIT WITH MY PARTNER, DON'T KNOW IF I COULD COPE WITH SYMPATHY LOOKS AND SIDEWAYS GLANCES :O MAYBE I'LL WAIT A FEW WEEKS

probably best to leave it a while then,i found the most common response when i found out i was expecting dd2(and everybody knew i wasnt in a relationship at the time)was 'oh.are you going to keep it?'which wasnt very nice.i would have preffered congratulations!

this time,i only planned to tell close friends at first,but dd1 is a gob almighty and it was all round the school the day after i found out.
