When to buy maternity clothes

Hi everyone

So I'm only 8 weeks 4 days pg but I'm so excited about buying maternity clothes. I just wondered when people started buying theirs and where they got them from.
Also, my boobs are growing, a lot!, and I was wondering when I should think about buying maternity bras.
Any help will be gratefully received.

eBay, the shops are so expensive. If I did buy a tankini and some yoga trousers from mothercare that are comfy. Their bras are not comfy at all though. Most of my maternity wear is second hand and the most comfortable stuff seems to be the new look stuff.

Buy when you feel you need too. I'm 29 weeks atm and haven't bought any baby stuff yet but have had to buy maternity clothes. I literally had nothing to wear to work!!
New look still have their 60% sale on I think. I spent about £40 off their website and got tons of stuff! George at asda is pretty cheap too but has some nice things.
I also love the asos stuff, got some great skinny jeans from there...and they're actually skinny!! But asos can be a little bit more expensive X

I got 2 decent pairs of jeans with over bump bands from Next but only in the sale for £14 and they've been worth their weight in gold to feel comfortable.

I had 2 maternity tops but tbf I've just found it easier to get a couple of sizes bigger in normal clothes - cheaper

I'm 16+4 and I'm still in loose fitting normal clothes. With all the other expenses coming up I really want to avoid spending loads on maternity clothes. I'm having a winter baby so if I do buy I'll wait until it's time for winter stuff when I'll really need it.

Maternity jeans are the most comfortable things ever. If I had no have a c section I would still be in then until baby starts secondary school.

Thank you so much for your help. I was planning on going to mothercare soon to buy some bras but I'm a bit worried now as you've said they're uncomfortable. Does anyone have any other

John Lewis non wired bras are fab, think they are £16. Gap maternity is great and they are always doing 30% days. I think I got some jeans off eBay too.

Buy as and when you feel the need to! What I will say though is don't stock up on too many bras of one size as you might find you have another growth spurt or two! Not all of us do but I did! Spent loads on bras and couldn't fit into any of them by the next month Blush

Just buy non-wired bras, or if you buy wired get them really properly fitted. Your breasts will change a lot through pregnancy, so no point buying specific maternity/breastfeeding bras so early.

I've always find that I gain weight all over before my bump grows, and that simply buying a size up from usual fits as well as actual maternity wear. Other women have huge bumps and really need maternity trousers from early one. I'd suggest you wait a bit before buying anything: just see what you need.

Debenhams for maternity bras. Buy them as soon as you outgrow your old bras. Buy maternity clothes when you no longer fit your normal clothes.

I bought a pair of maternity jeans from ASOS when I was about 11/12 weeks I think (16 now). My waist was definitely thicker and normal jeans didn't fit. Also bought a few T-Shirt bras from M&S at 8 weeks as I was spilling out of mine! Aside from that, bought a few loose patterned trousers, and just wearing some loose-ish tops with my jeans.

My advice would be not to buy loads of maternity clothes at once. I haven't put on an excessive amount of weight but I was size 8 before I was pregnant, then moved to size 10 maternity for all my clothes, and I'm now struggling to fit into size 12 maternity leggings due to bump size. It's nonsense about buying your usual size, especially for the bottom half. I would suggest buying a few things spread through your pregnancy as your bump grows. Same with bras, I have a couple of bought at week 10 and a couple at week 22ish, in different sizes. After the birth you will need a different size again!

I agree with just buying a few bits as and when you need them, as you have no idea how much weight you will gain and where. First time round I made the mistake of buying a couple of maternity dresses, but I never really had a big bump and they swamped me so I never wore them.

I'm now 24 weeks with my second. For jeans I find H&M have great ones that look great throughout your pregnancy as the over the bump stretchy bit holds everything in but grows with you!

Otherwise I try to buy normal clothes that work well in pregnancy-longer length stretchy tops or loose fitting blouses. A lot of maternity stuff is unflattering and overpriced. I tried on some ruched maternity tops the other day and I looked 10 months pregnant even though I barely have a bump!

Unless you're likely to be one of those who leave hospital in their size 8s, I'd start buying some clothes in a size up to double up as after delivery clothes and then buy maternity stuff after that.

Next clearance section usually has a few bargain maternity bits

I found the primark bras terribly uncomfortable during pregnancy but okay during breastfeeding and they have drop cups so a cheap option for breastfeeding mums.

With ddi didn't need maternity clothes until 20 weeks! With this pregnancy, I was in m maternity jeans and bigger bras by 9 weeks. At 27 weeks I still fit into many of my normal clothes (other than jeans and tight dresses), but I don't want to stretch them, plus the bump looks better in proper maternity clothes.

I just got bras in a bigger size up. I'm 24 weeks and haven't bought maternity bras (yet). I bought jeans and trousers for work at around 16/18 weeks as I had terrible bloating Blush I've recently got tops a size bigger from Primark but haven't needed maternity tops yet.

I wouldn't spend too much, as others have said you don't know how big you'll get!

You might not even need any or many. The only thing I bought was a few dresses for few weeks and for breastfeeding in. I could have got away without as didn't grow a large bump
