36 weeks and baby still breech. I’m ruling out trying for natural delivery, because it’s my first, I’ve no idea how I’ll cope with it all anyway, and the thought of things getting complicated and hair-raising when I’m halfway through delivering frankly scares me! So I can either book a c-section now or try an ECV. I’ve mainly heard negative things about ECVs on here, but wondering if anyone has had a good experience?
I’m aware there’s a low risk of it starting off labour – obviously not ideal, but doesn’t worry me unduly (an ‘emergency’ section in the early stages of labour in those circumstances would be a lot less scary than having to be whisked off if baby gets stuck part way through trying to give birth naturally!) I’m aware as well there’s only about a 40% chance of it actually working – and that even if it does there’s a chance they can turn back round again. But sort of feel like it’s worth a shot to avoid a c-section.
I’m not massively averse to a c-section – part of me quite likes the idea of having a definite date and more certainty around knowing how things will pan out. But those don’t seem great reasons on their own to have major surgery if there’s a chance of avoiding it. I’m aware the ECV isn’t a very pleasant experience, but can’t imagine it’s worse than post-surgery pain and a few weeks of slow recovery.
I’m torn! Does anyone have any direct experience of ECV – positive or negative?
