If you had a sweep..

I am 40+5 today and has a sweep with my midwife. She said that my cervix has not effaced yet, but as this was DC2 that didn't really mean a lot as on second babies that can happen very quickly and at the same time as dilation.

Has anyone else had a sweep and been told their cervix isn't effaced? What happened if anything afterwards? Just had enough of being pregnant now and hoping for this to help things moving.

I had a sweep in the morning - was told cervix hadn't even started shortening at all. Baby was born just after 9pm

Didn't work for me with my first but I was 39+1 and at the same time it worked brilliantly for my friend when she had hers. I was most jealous!

I had a sweep at 38+1 but was told cervix was still high and sweep was unsuccessful.
(I was being induced at 39w for medical reasons) slight twinges started that night... ramped up the next day and dd was born at 2am of 38+3!

^ I should say that I had that sweep because I really wanted to avoid the early induction

I had a sweep at 40 + 5 - then midwife said oops, baby has turned breech, was booked in for a CS for 48hrs later and told to not go into labour before then!
I didn't and DD was born via CS with no trouble.

I had a sweep at 40+2 with DD, midwife said my cervix was still "thick" and that there was no way I'd go into labout naturally. And she was right. Induced at 41+3, had 5 sweeps in 24 hours and she arrived at 41+5.
I'd been drinking raspberry leaf tea, walking miles and eating pineapples for weeks before I was due! But she just wasn't ready! Good luck OP!

I had a sweep at 40+2, at 11am and DS was born at 9pm Midwife said she didn't think it would work and probably be another couple of days but I got a pain like an elastic band twanging and apparently that was my cervix

I had two sweeps in my 41st week, and none of them worked. The midwife didn't think they would cos my cervix was nowhere near ready. I ended up being induced and gave birth at exactly 42 weeks :)

Sweeps didn't work for me either unfortunately.

I have been having what I think are contractions through the night but not progressing to anything , and just randomly. Lost more of my plug too. I just want it to either turn into labour or go away!

Had a sweep at 39+6 (tuesday) and had a few pains so thought it might have been the start now im 40+2 and having another sweep at 11.30 today. Midwife did say my cervix was very soft and shortening at my first sweep so hoping things might have progressed when she has a root about today this is DC2 said she couldnt feel babys head but that was to be expected with 2nd

I had a sweep at 40+1 on Wednesday and still no baby! My cervix was apparently favourable and partly effaced.

Have people been offered more than one sweep? Here it seems to be one sweep, and then on to induction if that doesn't work.

pink yes I am having another one Monday if nothing happens over the weekend. And then induction Thursday if nothing at all

It's good that they offer more than one then Addicted. I want to avoid induction if at all possible!

With my first I had a sweep at 41 weeks as I had madly high BP and was being sent in, midwife wanted to get things going. Definitely got a lot of contractions and lost my plug, and when I was 'induced' in the early morning I avoided a pessart as they were able to rupture my membranes as was 3cm where I had been 1cm and stretchy at the sweep. Had effaced a lot too.

Just had my second sweep. Midwife said my cervix was very soft and around 1-2cm dialated. She had a good old wiggle around said it was a lot easier to do than my first on tuesday. Heres hoping this o r starts me off. She also said that beby was now engaged and in a better position.

Had my sweep on my due date. Was told cervix was posterior and baby possibly back to back but it would turn during labour.

6 hours later.... contractions 1 min 49 secs apart.

14 hours later... I was 10cm dilated, cervix STILL posterior as back to back baby hadn't turned. Baby's heartrate dropped and baby was out within 7 mins by emergency csec. Grrrr

Expect the unexpected is my only piece of advice! That morning of my due date things had seemed perfect!

Seems like my sweep worked! Baby girl born 11.20 pm last night
