I am 5 weeks now and have an appointment booked for a couple of weeks time but didn't know whether to make it sooner or just leave it.

As soon as i did a home pg test, i called and booked. But if it happened again i wouldnt rush there. (I dont see the point, they only confirm your pg and then put you in touch with the hosp and HV )

I was 7wks but didn't really know how far along I was at that point (irregular cycles etc).

I'd keep the appt you've got - so long as it's before 10wks (when the midwife starts wanting to see you to take bloods, book scans etc) you're probably ok.

MrsBadger · 31/01/2007 14:48

oh, I meant to say, I found out I was pregnant on Christmas Eve, so couldn't even ring the surgery to make an appointment till after the New Year.

MrsMcJnr · 31/01/2007 14:49

Whoops, I saw my GP on Monday (I was 4+1) but that was because I had that spotting and was scared. She is doing a test for me next week and then if I am still positive (please pray I am), I am having a scan at 7 weeks to check that it's in the right place and how many there are! (family history). She did tell me to make an appointment with the midwife if my test is positive next Tuesday so maybe if you can change your appointment for one next week, you might get into the system quicker? I know nothing about these things though. Green as they come

MrsMcJnr - i went to the dr's at 4 or 5weeks too, and was sent away with the info 'we're not sure yet, come back next week'

It was the slowest week of my life!

Hersetta · 31/01/2007 14:56

I got my BPF on Dec 16th (Saturday) and as we were going on holiday the next day I had to wait untill Dec 27th for an apointment so I would have been 5+3 at that point.

The appointment was no big deal - the Dr said congratulations, took my BP and booked me into the maternity 'system' and made me sign a couple of maternity forms. In and out in less than 10 mins.

Gobbledigook · 31/01/2007 14:57

Just leave it.

I went straightaway with ds1 adn ended up having a really early scan. With the other two I left it till about 10 or 11 weeks. They don't do anything before that anyway.

whoopsfallenpregnantagain · 31/01/2007 14:58

I've just phoned the gp and they said I didn't even need to see the gp and that they would pass my details on to the midwives!
They did suggest keeping the appointment just in case! I would like an earlyish scan as there are twins in our family and I also think I was carrying twins with ds!

I went as soon as I took pg test. Also took day off work as was in total shock even though ds was planned lol!
Think I was 5 weeks or so.
Doing it again, I wouldn't rush there so quick unless I thought there was a problem.

The doctor didn't even do a test, just put my name down to see mw. I left doctors feeling 'not really pg!!'
Didn't believe it until 1st scan.

gingergirl · 31/01/2007 15:00

I haven't seen my GP and I'm 21 weeks now, I contacted the surgery who said I didn't need to see him and they arranged my booking in appointment with the midwive.

PinkTulips · 31/01/2007 15:01

9/10 weeks.... to have preg test with dd and the day after testing with ds i'm a bit slow to catch on when i'm preg!

BabyMadwithBump · 31/01/2007 15:03

I went at five weeks due to feeling so very drained and very sick all the time, she just sent me away and said nothing we can do, its all part of being PG, but when I saw my MW at 9 weeks she said that yes a doctor can do something for you, she then made me an app to see another GP(by this point couldn't even make a bed lost loads of weight and DH was having to take time off work to look after our children) and this nice doctor gave me some anit sickness tabs and sent me for aload of blood tests and one came back "over active thyroid". They do say get your GP to confrim your PG also so they can put it on record, just in case anything happens to you, but MW app they say if your area does a 12 weeks scan then see your MW in your 10th week, but some do a 10 weeks scan and you need to see your MW at 8 weeks! MrsMcJnr · 31/01/2007 15:04

Nip - it is a long week! The GP asked DH, who wanted to come along, if he could confirm the BFP think she thought I was a bit of a nutter with my questions but to me they were important (and I wanted DH to hear her say that he had to clean the cats' litter trays from now on )

Nip · 31/01/2007 15:13

LOL - you sound just like me... that was one of the first duties (of many) i got out of!
