Booking appointment

Recently found out that I am pregnant, and am confused as to when to make my booking appointment. Having read up on it I understand you can make the appointment anywhere after 8 weeks. Is this 8 weeks after last monthly period or 8 weeks after conception? Sorry for what might be such a silly question, just I am about to start a new job soon and trying to make appointment without taking time off new work.

At 8 weeks pregnant so 8 weeks from date of your last period. That's the date they use to start your pregnancy.

To be honest I think every area is different. With me I phoned my GP Surgery and they left a note in the diary for the midwife to call at about 7 weeks and I'm booked in for Tuesday when I'll be 10weeks. So probably best to phone your GP and ask.

8 weeks after your last period. I didn't have mine till 11 weeks I thought they'd forgot about me so no rush. Congrats

Ring your GP surgery and ask what the local proceedure is. In my area they are booked up weeks in advance so I've rung as soon as I've known I'm pregnant to get in the queue so to speak.

They can't book you in for scans etc until you have had your booking appointment and again depending on the area there can be huge waiting lists so it's best to get a date as early as possible.

Finally, without wanting to cast a shadow over your happy news, a significant number of pregnancies sadly end in miscarriage before 12 weeks (as many as 1 in 5) and managaing the process of this in my experience is much easier if you are known to the midwives as they can book you into the nearest early pregancy unit with slightly less hassle than trying to sort it out yourself at a distressing time.

As a pp suggests call up your GP surgery and ask what the process is for where you stay. For my area I had to call a central number, give them my name, DOB and date of last period and they booked me in for my booking appointment and scan appointment 4 weeks later at my nearest CMU and I had the letters through a few days later.

I was 8+4 at my booking appt and thought I was 12+2 at my scan but measured at 12+6.

Different again in my area. The gp appointment is first, they book the scan and then you make the appointment at reception for the midwife. In the end I had my scan before my booking appointment and that was fine. 8-13 weeks is normal.

I had a booking appt at 7 weeks with my first (was excited, found out at 3wks) and the midwives get your details for it and to book a scan from the GP. I had a booking appt at about 13/14 weeks with this pregnancy (didn't know at the time, thought I was earlier), I left it a bit late. So from my experience it doesn't really matter when you have a booking appt just as long as it's before your first scan, so 12 wks, because in my area you don't get a scan without first having gone through a GP to get the ball rolling, then seen a midwife at booking appt then scan at hospital.

And I say before your first scan because I have my second scan in about a week when there were about 4 weeks in between, bit of a bummer.

In Scotland you get a pre booking appt and it generates your 12 week scan appt so I think you should call up MW (no need to call GP) and get things going. Usually get the appt about 7 weeks - that's with calling in pretty much as soon as I found I was pg.
