So worried about 12 week scan

I am soooo worried as morning sickness has cleared up and boobs haven't grown anymore and have 12 week scan next Thursday.

I just don't want to go in and see a baby with no heartbeat or a problem. I know we all worry about this but please, has anyone ever felt quite ok at 11+2 weeks pregnant?

I had two early scans, the first at 4 weeks which only showed a yolk sac and at 6 weeks there was a tiny embryo with a flickering heart beat.

Is it common to have a missed miscarriage if heart beat aleady seen?

Thanks for listening and hopefully supporting me xxx

I was reading up on m/c recently and there is a massive reduction in the chances of having a m/c if the foetus is confirmed as having a heartbeat.

I think morning sickness is worst in the first trimester which you're almost out of; the second trimester is when you feel fine again or, even, really good! And the third is when you feel like a whale!

Chances are you've probably just got over your morning sickness. M/c are statistically less likely in any event in women who have morning sickness...

You poor darling, I don't know the answer to your question, but have been through the same thing and it is agonising. WOuld they take pity on you and bring the scan forward? I ended up paying to have one privately as the waiting was so miserable. Holding thumbs for you.

Mumpbump · 30/01/2007 14:02

PS - if you want to read the article, there is a link on the TTC after a miscarriage thread. Also mentions that the most risky time is 6-8 weeks...

geordiemacminx · 30/01/2007 14:02

I felt exactly the same as you nearly 18 weeks ago, after a m/c I had a scan at 7 weeks, one at 9 and one at 12.. I hated every secong of it, and worried myself sick... quite literally before each one. Even my 20 week scan was a traumatic experience as I was convinced something had gone wrong..

I'm not sure of the statistic but basically because there was a heart beat at your last scan then your risk of m/c has dramatically fallen.. from 1/4 to 1/100 or something like that? I'm sure everything will be ok for you!!

27 weeks now!!

MrsBadger · 30/01/2007 14:04

I had the same unformed sense of dread over the weekend (at 11+0ish) - the nausea had stopped, I was feeling better - and I hadn't had an early scan so had nothing at all to go on.

Had 12wk scan this morning and everything was absolutely in order.

Agree the fact you've seen the heartbeat already is a fantastic sign and I'm sure you'll be fine, but am holding thumbs for you anyway.

KDRacey · 30/01/2007 14:54

I know how you feel. I've just gone 19 weeks and feeling really good now (sicness well gone, boobs stopped aching), but I haven't felt baby move yet (not that I'm aware of) and 20 week scan not until 21 weeks. I've no real reason for concern but the gap between last hearing the heart beat 3 weeks ago and my scan in 2 weeks time feels like a life time.

I just wish little one would give me a kick to assure me he/she is okay

Fingers crossed that everything is okay for you - I'm sure you're just going to have a great pregnancy

Mumpbump · 30/01/2007 14:55

KD - lie down on your bed and put your hands on your tummy. Be very still and see if you can feel butterfly movements - a bit like a nervous twitch in your eye. It's so gentle to start with, it's really easy to miss. By the end, it's another story though...

sleepychunky · 30/01/2007 15:01

endlesslove, please don't worry. I posted a message along the lines of yours a few months ago. I am pg with number 1 and from the day I found out I was pg until my 12-week scan I was absolutely paranoid that there would be nothing there. I had no m/s at all, felt completely normal and couldn't believe that I was pregnant.

3 months on and I've got my 21-week scan on Friday. I've still had no sickness at all but I do have a rapidly expanding stomach, so I guess it's true and I am having a baby!

Please don't worry - if you've already seen a heartbeat then you're in a better position than I was, and it's very unlikely that anything will have gone wrong.

Good luck!

Hey, have no experience of m/c's but I'm currently pregnant with my first. I had my first scan at 6+3 weeks and there was a heartbeat. Was freaking out loads up to my 12 week point thinking something might go wrong, then I found out I wouldn't be having a 12 week scan, just one at 20 weeks! I was so jittery until my 20 week scan, 14 weeks is such a long time to be made to wait to see if everything is ok with your baby. The midwife came to see me at around 17/18 weeks and I heard the heatbeat for the first time, then had my scan at 20+1 weeks, didn't feel my baby's first movements until around 21/22 weeks and heard my baby's h/b again this weekend. Am now approaching my 24 weeks mark, but i think it's disgusting that everyone's care is different. It should all be the same for everyone.
My morning sickness which was severe cleared instantly at around my 12 week mark and all my symptoms went as well. Which made me panic even more, but it was and is completely normal.
Don't worry so much hun, everything is and will be fine.

Twiglett · 30/01/2007 15:13

I wouldn't worry in the slightest about feeling fine at 11+2/7 .. there's no rule that says you have to feel crap for the first 12 weeks you know

sorry, but the things we find to spark off neurosis

You have already seen a heartbeat at 6 weeks .. I don't think you have anything to worry about

there's some theories that less morning sickness = boy btw .. there you go .. fixate on its gender for a while

endlesslove · 30/01/2007 17:50

Thanks for your messages. I know I am being paranoid but I think we all go through this and just need the support that you have kindly given me. I also think its worse when its number 1 you are expecting which in my case it is.

I am also worried as no significant changes in tummy area. I can still get into my jeans and all my clothes. Is this normal? I have been reading antenatal threads and by this time some people are experiencing expanding waistlines by now. I thought that if my tummy would at least show a signal that there is a baby growing in there then my worries would be lessened.

Thanks again, you are such a fantastic support to me and I hope I can return the favour.

Don't worry about expanding waistline (enjoy it while you can). I only started expanding 2 or so weeks ago (around 16 weeks). My friend didn't need maternity clothes until she was 7 months!!!!

bambi06 · 30/01/2007 18:26

hi there, just going through same thing and today had my 12 week scan and ...yippee everything was o.k...i had a scan at 9 weeks as id had two miscarriages and was living on my nerves constantly..i felt as though i was a timebomb waiting to go off ..i know how you feel and have huge sympathy for you.. i was sure that the baby had died as just after ten weeks everthing..as in symptoms started to go and i thought o.k thats it ..it s died like last time but im proof that it isnt always the case as my bouncing baby proved today..enjoy your pregnancy and congratulations...i`m lucky that i dont have ms carrying on like some other poor mums

MrsBadger · 30/01/2007 18:47

and re waistline / lack of bump, at my scan today (11+4) the baby was 2in long, ie as big as my thumb.

Now it's no wonder I can still get into my jeans - I've done poos bigger than 2in.
I've eaten cakes bigger than 2in. And three pints of beer takes up a lot more space than 2in!

It's like the Tardis - there's a lot of room on the inside without the outside looking any bigger .

endlesslove · 30/01/2007 21:14

Thank you so much. I am reading posts with a small tear as just got to the point like bambi06 and its great to see others have a good outcome. You just hear so many bad things on Mumsnet and in magazines etc that all you can think of is the worst.

I think all this has come too from my friend stating that her friend went to her 12 week scan and baby had died and then she went on to ask me how I would cope if it was me etc and I was like I don't want to think of these things yet and I'll cross that bridge when I get to it etc. But deep down I know that ever since then my nerves are so wobbly.

Also shedding a tear I suppose is hormones so that has to be a good thing!

Oh and MrsBadger, thanks for your last post, put a smile on my face too.

Thanks again, you are fantastic.

Hi Endless

I have had the same worries, but if you see a hb you have about 80% chance of carrying baby to full term. Didn't stop me worrying till 12 week scan over either. (i had it at 11+5 days)

I now have less symptoms too 12 weeks today, but that's normal, as long as boobs haven't dramatically shrunk you'll be fine.

good luck.

AllBuggiedOut · 30/01/2007 22:14

I was so convinced that I had miscarried my second pregnancy that I took a toothbrush with me to the scan because I was convinced I would have to stay in for an ERPC (which is what had happened with my first). But all was OK, and DS1 is now 3 1/2!

Good luck. xx

Hi All,

I have my 12 week scan tomorrow and I am terrified. It’s my first pregnancy and although I’m a worrier in general I feel massively anxious about this. We had an early scan at 7 weeks and saw a heartbeat, that reassured me for about a day but since then I have been panicking.

I know you can’t give me an answer as to whether or not everything will be ok or not but a heartbeat at 7 weeks is a good sign right?

Thanks in advance.

Keha · 10/11/2019 22:54

expectingscience.com/2015/08/26/lies-damned-lies-and-miscarriage-statistics/

Heart beat at 7 weeks a very good sign, risk of miscarriage dropped to below 5%. Assume you've not had any significant bleeding? Missed miscarriages are pretty rare it's very, very likely it's fine. Hope you can relax, scan isn't long away, you'll get through it!

Clarricb · 11/11/2019 08:04

I’ve had no bleeding or anything no, no sickness just nausea. Some tummy cramps but nothing painful. Feeling tired and have had a headache most days but apart from that I feel fine. My tummy is growing already and I’m feeling so very excited and apprehensive all rolled in to one. Just can’t wait to see baby today and have that reassurance.
Thank you.
