I was at my GP today and she said thats when they test for Spina Bifida & Downs. What I really wanted to know was what does it involve? Is this blood test, scan or both? I have had my 12 week scan and a blood test then as well.

it is the triples test...done by blood test around 16 weeks....then the results give you an indication of risk, based on that you will be asked if you wish to have an amnio, or not...for a conclusive answer, if the risk is deemed high.......and of course, there are risks to having an amnio.....also, the blood results are not always accurate,as if your dates are out, you can get a higher risk...ask your midwife for more info if you are not sure.
