Paracetamol - yes or no?

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/08/2016 12:54

I have a really bad chest cold. A tickly cough that is constant and has made my throat sore. I feel pants.

Is it OK to take paracetamol or should I avoid it?

Totally fine. 2 tablets four times a day. Completely safe

DocMcFanjo · 15/08/2016 12:56

Paracetamol is safe!

Feel better soonFlowers

Yes you can definitely take paracetamol, about the only thing you can have for a cold so dose up, hope you feel better Smile

FaithAscending · 15/08/2016 12:58

Also recommend inhaling steam - 10 minutes, 4 times a day. It will help to shift the snot! Hope you're better soon.

My doctor mentioned this research www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-32808969 as an aside when I was in there recently with my toddler. This NHS advice is that it's safe but take the lowest dose over the shortest period you can get away with

Thank God. Scurries out to buy some. Thanks!

Paracetamol is fine, just don't take anything with ibruprofen in it!

leoniethelioness · 15/08/2016 15:30

My GP has prescribed me co-codamol so I think paracetamol must be fine in pregnancy.

babyblabber · 15/08/2016 20:05

Read an article today that links paracetamol use in pregnancy to hyperactive kids! Can't remember it all but Google will find it.

My view is I try to avoid unless I have to!

SquedgieBeckenheim · 15/08/2016 21:08

Paracetamol is fine. I was taking it regularly with DD as I had SPD and constant headache from pre-eclampsia. DD is 2 now, and no more hyperactive than any other 2 year old, so I don't believe the latest articles about that!
Hope your cold shifts soon.

Thanks, yes I have also been suffering with intermittent but bloody excruciating hip pain. This coughing is such a nuisance though.

There is a thing about paracetamol being vaguely possibly maybe linked to missing/retained testes in boy babies, so maybe google that first? (or just go ahead if you are having a girl)

YorkieDorkie · 15/08/2016 21:38

Best I'm sure that was when mum's were taking paracetamol too frequently.

OP if you boil water and add lemon juice and honey + 2 paracetamol you've basically got a lemsip.

I got told off by a nurse for not taking it enough when I was unwell and pregnant, because I had a fever and it's much more important to keep that under control.
