I've been really itchy, especially on my legs, all the way through this pg (currently 32wks). I wasn't with dd. My GP suggested that this pg might be a boy as they tend to aggravate skin complaints, think they take more of a certain vitamin/mineral from you.

I've been taking omega 3 along with a multi-vit all the way through along with constant moisturizing, but I'm still itchy. Think it's just another one of those things we can moan about!

The only thing you have to watch is if the itching gets really bad and is on your hands and feet, thats something to do with a liver problem and I've just been told after a routine blood test that I'm at a slightly increased risk of it. It's definitely worth mentioning it to your GP/midwife, but in the meantime hit the body creams.

cholestasis - that's what you have to watch out for.

I had very itchy legs in the first trimester of my pg (mostly in bed at night, when it was almost unbearable). Among other things I tried changing my washing powder and the itching cleared up at the same time. May have been coincidence though... I used a calamine cream for a while which helped.

That's interesting about boys novadandypowder. Sounds like an old wives' tale to me, but then again I did have a boy...

I'm really glad to have seen this - I'm only 5 weeks pg and have had really itchy legs for about a week now! Thought it might be pg-related, so good to know I'm not going mad and other people have it too!

EdieMcredie · 29/01/2007 20:10

Brilliant, Fettle I thought the same thing and was a bit worried too. It's not washing powder for me, def related to the pg. Will be interested to see what sex it is!

I haven't got any itching anywhere else although one of my ankles is slightly swollen now!!

I had it. Bit annoying, but now 23 weeks and don't have it anymore. Sorry can't remember when it stopped, pg brain can't remember anything!

belgo · 29/01/2007 20:29

could it be due to changes in your blood circulation in your legs due to pregnancy - for instance varicose veins are itchy.

Or due to dry skin? Especially in this cold weather.

Bodkin · 30/01/2007 11:39

I was going to suggest the cold weather too, Belgo. My itchy legs have got much better since it's got a bit warmer. Also slapping on plenty of moisturiser.

belgo · 30/01/2007 11:43

Yes moisturiser - I also find that I have the water in my shower far to hot in the winter, I don't feel it in the shower, but it really dries out my skin.

Suddenly remembered in bed last night (pg insomnia to add to the list anyone...), that it's essential fatty acids that boy babies take more of. As well as what my GP said, I also read it in a pg book that I happened to be rifling through in a waiting room.

My itching was so bad I was making myself bleed with all the scratching. Now I just look like I have fleas .

MegaLegs · 30/01/2007 12:08

I had a blood test during my pg with DS4 as I was really itchy all over - checked for cholestasis - but was fine. Am not pg now and my legs drive me crazy when I get into bed at night. Think it's the weather and tights.

Hi I have had itching legs in pregnancy before and I am doing a pregnancy test soon but Its started tonight. Is there anyone else in the same situation. My youngest is 3 years old and I know itching can be for other reasons too. Just bizarre how it starts tonight. My 3 day bleed finished on the 18th of November.

Squiff70 · 27/11/2018 21:58

I'm 13 weeks today and my legs, especially round my ankles, are unbearably itchy - especially at night. No idea of the cause but it's driving me nuts too!

Lyn4 · 27/11/2018 22:24

Thanks. I understand its horrible, I wiped my lower left leg with a baby wipe and it's soothed it on that part.
