Pregnant after pregnancy loss

Hi its been 2month since i had a late pregnancy loss at 20weeks and i am now pregnant again does anyone know what to expect with regards to care and how soon should i contact my doctor??

Hi, first of all sorry for your loss and congratulations on your pregnancy. I can imagine your head is all over the place at the moment, I was very up and down when we found out I was pregnant following a miscarriage at 12 weeks. I contacted my GP nearly straight away and asked for a very early booking appointment with the midwives, then asked if I could have an early scan to reassure me. They scanned at 6 weeks which actually highlighted some issues so now I'm having much more frequent scans (currently 15+1) and I'm under a consultant. Would that help you? I think the main thing is to see GP/midwives early and discuss any concerns as they can then start a plan of action for you. Hope that helps lovely

So sorry for your loss and congratulations on your pregnancy. I know it must be very nervewracking so sending you good wishes and positive thoughts. If you know the reason for your previous loss then discuss this with the doctor at your first GP appointment as they might like to refer you straight away for consultant led care at the hospital. I had a very difficult first pregnancy and am now expecting again and have been under the specialist team at the hospital since my 12 week scan. I've had extra scans on my cervix and additional consultant appointments so we've been really well taken care of. Take care

Following my stillbirth last year, my doctor has told me to get in touch as soon as I'm pregnant to arrange early scans and to talk through how we will get me through with my sanity intact.

user I'm so sorry you lost your baby and know how very terrifying a new pregnancy is. I lost my DD1 at 20 weeks and my DS at 13-14 weeks. I had a second daughter 10.5 months after losing DD1, and 8 months after losing DS I am now 16 weeks pregnant again.

Sadly my experience has been that at the point of my loss and reviews afterwards I am promised the moon on a stick in future pregnancies and then not much of it materialises.

My advice would be to think about how you feel at your worst points eg late at night when you may feel overwhelmed, panicky, terrified, emotional etc and go and tell the doctor/midwife/consultant that that is how you are feeling. Tell them the worst of it and do not be brave and smiley at your appointments. I think this is my mistake - I am in "outside acting" mode and they assume I am fine and extra care has not been easy to access. I suspect if I went in and broke down there would be more in the way of reassurance scans/appointments being arranged.
