sterilisers?

help!
me and my dh have no idea which sterilisers to use have looked in the toys r us catalogue and mothercare, we are deciding between the avent iq 24 or avent express electric steam any one got any advice? thanks

m/wave sterilisers are great: fast and don't take up so much workspace in your kitchen. however they realistically only take about 4 bottles (whatever they say on the packaging!) so if you are going to bottlefeed from early on you may want a steam steriliser that takes 8 or so bottles.

or you could ignore sterilising completely, as advised by neo-natal nurses in our unit. cleaning thoroughly in hot soapy water and leaving to air dry on kitchen towel was their advice.

I would second the microwave one. Much more convenient to be able to leave it in the oven out of the way and smaller too. I found the Tommee Tippee one absolutely fine. Some of the new ones have fancy extras but you really need to consider whether you are paying for extras you won't need. Save up Boots Advantage points and get one with your points!

whats this about not using a steriliser? sounds a lot better than faffing around and buring myself.

are you going to give breastfeeding a go or formula feed?

if the former, I'd not buy one at all yet. You only need a small one if you do, for your breast pump; I managed with a travel steriliser with dd2 who was breastfed; didn't need it at all for the first few weeks till I started expressing

dd1 was formula fed however and needed the full on avent electric steam one to fit all the bottles in.

I do know a woman who gave her kids thrush through not sterilising

so I'd give that a miss if I were you
