Baby engaged

I'm 36+1 and had a midwife appointment today. She has written in my notes that I am 2/5ths engaged. She commented on how far into the pelvis baby already is and how low down she is. My understanding is that she could only feel 2/5ths of baby's head outside of my pelvis.

Can anyone clarify - are we aiming for 0/5ths effectively or is 5/5ths the most engaged? I've seen lots of conflicting stuff online.

2/5th engaged means 2/5 of baby's head is in your pelvis, 3/5th is out. Doesn't have any baring on when you will deliver

It also doesn't really matter how engaged they are. I was 2/5 engaged about 2 hrs before I delivered. Baby dropped right down when my waters went. I had also been 2/5ths for about 5 weeks.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. I was the same at 36 weeks and DS was eventually 16 days late!

I know it can take ages for them to drop more, so not getting my hopes up. There just seems to be inconsistency online about what 2/5ths means - whether that means she is 2/5ths in the pelvis and 3/5ths out, or vice versa. I suppose in the end it doesn't mean much until labour anyway!
