Baby is measuring small at 7 weeks scan

Hi ladies,
I'm very anxious as I just had our 7 week scan and the baby was measuring 6w+2. The dates aren't wrong as it's an ivf baby. The embryo measured 6.2mm and the Foetal Heart Beat is 112bpm.
Should I prepare for a miscarriage?
Booked to scan again in 10 days.

I just had my 7 week scan today. I am roughly 7 weeks 3 days and measures sat 13mm

They said and it's also written down that measurement could be + or - 5 days as its hard to be accurate when so small.
Could it be that the measurement isn't accurate?

I had a 7 week scan which showed about 6+5, then a 10 week which measured as 9+1. The 12 week scan then pretty much backed the original dates as did the 20 week.
It's very hard for them to measure when it's that small. The range of 'normal' measurements is barely anything.
It's not easy but try to relax until your next scan. Having a hb is a very good sign

Thanks for your responses ladies. I've had a lot of struggles during pregnancies and so feel very anxious. Have kind of decided it is doomed now. Will have to wait and see.

Same as AnythingGoesWithMe, we had a scan at 6+3 and baby measured 5+4. A few weeks later, it measured over a week ahead instead. At 12 week and 20 week scans, he was spot on my calculated dates. Consultant said that they are difficult to measure when they are still so little, so mistakes can happen. I wouldn't worry about it just yet and wait for the next scan.

When I had an 8 week scan they told me the date was - or + 5 days. Apparently they are so teeny that it's difficult to accurately date which is why the first 'official' date the baby/pregnancy at 12 weeks.

Last year we had ds2 and the pregnancy was rather complicated and so lots of scans etc. even then he was born much bigger and healthier than predicted! The Dr.s did say that basically scans are a bit like chasing someone around a football pitch with a tape measure trying to measure them! So accuracy isn't always the best!

You have a foetal heartbeat and that counts for a lot when we are talking about being behind with growth in the early days (anyone I know who was behind and subsequently miscarried had no heartbeat). I think as well you can be +-5 days. So right now, this moment, and with the current information you have, you are pregnant with no sure indication there is any problem at all. Hang in there!

Dating scans aren't has accurate as they would like you to believe. I measured big ( further along) with all of mine ( 5 pregnancies and I knew when I conceived each time as I used the temp method along with ovulation tests). Mine were always about a week out each time.

I had the exact same measurements at my scan yesterday. My doc said she's not too worried but wants a repeat scan in 2 week. I'm of course too worried. What did your doctor say? I've been googling all day and from what I read it's 50/50. Th HR was 118. I wasn't sent for any of the regular prenatal bloodwork at this point which also has me worried.

I had two early scans, both measured the baby far too small for my dates (one two weeks, one nine days) and then my 12 week scan yesterday where they measured the baby to be exactly right to my dates- not too small at all.

I was the same as you, totally freaking out and prepared to miscarry. My sonographer yesterday said early scans are very difficult to date, and things like a tilted uterus can make it even harder.

Honestly as long as there is a heart beat and growth progression it's fine! We had an early scan at 6+4 and was only measuring 5, back at 8+5 and was measuring 7, and at 12 week scan was measuring 11+2 so it's catching up!

Bayliegirl I'm sorry you are stressing too. It's horrible. My doctor was not concerned but you never know how honest they are being. After a little freak out I emailed the nurse at the clinic who checked with the doc and reassured me that there is no cause for alarm. Just gotta wait and hope.

Scary dinosaurs and fenella your messages are very reassuring and I hope you are right. Thank you for taking the time to message. I really appreciate it.

They are so small at that stage that their measurements can be out.

I had a scan at 7 weeks with my youngest and they put my dates back a week, at my 12 week scan they were put forward a week. I think at that stage they are tricky to measure but at the time it really made me worry!
Baby was born at nearly 10lb and is now a very healthy 7 month old so try and relax (easier said than done I know!)

DRS did they measure your HCG in your blood? My HCG level for my week number was correct- but scan was way out, and that did reassure me a little.

Fingers crossed. following fertility treatment, my seven week scan looked really iffy and not correct for dates too. That scan is now 9 years' old :)

I was stressing at my last scan (10 weeks) as I was measuring 5 days behind where I should have been (I ovulation tested so know when I ovulated). I got scanned again today (13+1) and I am 5 days forward (so exactly where I originally thought I should have been). I think a lot depends on if the baby is curled up or straight out, it's mm either way.

I was measuring 5 days behind at that stage, baby had almost caught up by the 13 week scan and was measuring 2 days small.

I'm 22 weeks now.

Sorry, forgot to mention it is an IVF baby too (FET) so I'm 100% sure of the dates!
