Telling work

Hi everyone, new mums netter here 😀

I recently found our I am pregnant. 6 weeks. I'm a teacher and it is the beginning of the summer holidays. I am getting married in 1 week so lol for timing. We couldn't be more thrilled.

I'm wondering when it is best to tell work? I have quite an active job so want to make sure I'm safe but I'm also conscious it will be really obvious I got pregnant before the wedding if I go back right away and say hi I'm pregnant. OH thinks I should wait a few weeks. I'm not sure when I have to tell or when I should tell or when i want to tell.

Any advice?

Congratulations! Even though it's tempting to wait I would tell someone in SLT. They need to do a risk assessment so it's worth telling one person. I had an early miscarriage last month and had to tell someone at work when I started bleeding and they were really supportive. But they did say they would rather have known straight away to do a risk assessment. I've just found out I'm pregnant again and will be 10 weeks when I go back. I am planning on having a private early scan at the end of August and then telling one person at work - if I make it that far! Really looking to having 5 more weeks off to relax and wait for morning sickness to kick in. Good luck!

Congratulations :-) I'm a teacher too and Ian currently on maternity leave with my little girl. I told my principal when I was 8 weeks. He then contacted HR and I had a risk assessment done the next day. No one else knew as I wanted to wait until 12 weeks. I think wait until you go back in September and tell your head on your inset day. That way you can get the risk assessment done the first week back and you can enjoy the time. They will put together a plan for chickenpox, aggressive pupils, dealing with accidents and playground duties etc. I would just enjoy your wedding and your summer break before telling work. Thanks for the super advice. I just had my.first midwife appointment and will be having a couple more in the next.few weeks so will need to tell work so I can go to those. I'm a little worried because my headteacher is a bit of a dragon and I know it's going to be an inconvenience as I am moving to year 6. Any tips on how to break the news? Any tips for taking appointments during school hours?

Legally they have to allow you time for medical appointments. So don't worry about that they, she can't stop you going to them. I think the best way to do it is just go in and see her and tell her. There's no other way round it. If she's a decent head and person she roll congratulate you and be happy for you :-) make sure you ask for a risk assessment (it's a good opportunity to get a comfier chair in class and to ease up on playground or lunch duties)
