Massive reduction in movement

Hi everyone
I am nearly 36 weeks. For the last three or four weeks, this baby has been moving so much its felt like she has been trying to break out of my body through my skin (sorry - bit graphic but you get the picture) several times a day for up to 20-30 minutes at a time with really strong feeling and visible from the outside jerky movements and rolling type movements. Today I've had hardly anything. I phoned the maternity number and they told me to go in. I was put on a monitor and they have said heartbeat is fine apparently. The lady there told me that if it doesn't go back to normal and I'm not happy that I can phone and go back in.

I still have had barely any movements. I'm thinking of phoning tomorrow and going back in for another go. I was also told that they may do a scan to check a few more things if I do end up going in again.

Has anyone else had a really dramatic reduction in movement? Did it last for a couple of days? Was everything ok?

If you are worried then don't leave it until tomorrow, phone right this min. Every baby is different and while I won't tell you horror stories it is better to be safe and assured all is well.
What happens when you have a cold drink etc to get them to move?

Definitely go in. I can see absolutely no reason whatsoever why you wouldn't.

Don't worry about bothering them, give them a call now. See what they say and maybe be prepared to go in if they tell you to. Is anyone with you?

Cold drink and lay on your left side, see if they get moving. If not, please ring hospital again.
I had it with my Ds and was in a few times over a few days, I was induced in the end.
Hoping all ok.

Hi Lezibeth,
First off, for your own piece of mind go back to the maternity hospital if you feel baby is not making enough movement. Baby may be just comfy and having a nice long nap but do go back if you're uneasy.
It happened to me about 38 weeks, very active baby constantly and one day I noticed not much going on. I went in and the nurses were great, monitored me and said the same that the heartbeat was fine and that baby was having a sleep.
What worked for me and probably woke up baby but reassured me was to lie down and eat an ice-cream and baby was very active after, she probably didn't like the cold. Movement was probably reduced for only a day and then she was back to her Olympic somersaults. It is reassuring when baby is active.

Go in. My little girl was stillborn. If I'd gone in a few hours earlier they might have been able to help. Get your bag and your notes and go NOW.

Go in.

I went in for reduced movements at a similar stage to you.

They won't make you feel silly. They, like you, will just want to make sure all is okay.

Thanks everyone. I will ring again now. I've tried everything. Cold drinks. Lying on my side etc etc. So sorry about your loss.

Hi. I went in again and had more monitoring done. Heartbeat fine again. They've booked me in for a scan this morning to check some more things. Still not much movement going on. The midwife who did the monitoring yesterday said the baby may be breech now and that could explain some of the movement changes. Fingers Crossed everything is ok at the scan

Glad the monitoring went well. My baby was breech at 37 weeks and after he turned I felt less movement. All worked out fine. Good luck for your scan today.

Hope everything is ok , but yeah as everyone said, never risk it , go in if you think there is reduced movement

Scan was fine thankfully. The baby is fine as far as they can tell. She's measuring around 6lb11!! (35+5 today). I have got slightly high amniotic fluid which is what is stopping me feel the movements properly. The doctor has booked me in for another scan in a weeks time and they've given me a blood sugar monitor thing so I can test my blood sugar three times a day to make sure I don't have gestational diabetes. They've said the fluid can often fluctuate so may not be high permanently, it might just have been at the time of the scan.
