Does anyone know of any laxatives which are safe in pregnancy - tried the usual - prune juice, fruit, water, lactulose and fibre gel and nothing works.

Sorry if TMI but getting desperate !

Wouldnt have thought any would be safe. Better perhaps to have lots of fruit and water

I think lactulose is fine

Glycerine suppositories are safe in pregnancy and very, very effective. I used them on the recommendation of my GP but you can buy them OTC for about 90p.

Senakot is OK too - the midwives on the ante-natal wards gave them out like smarties.

Fibogel can be used in pregnancy as well.

calfig is apparently o.k....well, my friend was told to use it when pg with her dd

lactulose is fine - my gp prescribed it for me. But don't drink too much if it doesn't kick in straight away. I upped the dose and couldn't leave the loo for about 1/2 an hour

Thanks everyone. On GP's advice have upped my dose of lactulose and fibre gel and he also recommended suppositories. Won't bother with the GP in future as you had already said this ! Thanks again x
