anti depressants and pregnancy

Hi ya.

We have recently found out we are pregnant. Only just 5 weeks but I've been on escitalopram and have stopped due to risk of harming the baby. But I feel I just can't cope without them. We have already had an ectopic scare with the pregnancy so don't want to put any more complication in the way.

Has anyone else had them throughout the pregnancy? Was your baby ok?

If you stopped taking them. How did you cope?

I was taking amitriptyline every night for the past two years and when I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago I was advised to stop taking them straight away. (I'm not sure about the tablets you are on so best to speak to your GP.)
TBH it's now 04:53 and I have been awake from 3am. My tablets helped me sleep through the night and now I'm off them I can't sleep and I was obviously dependent on them. Like you I have had a loss in the past and took us a very long time to conceive so I wasn't prepared to take any chances with medication. If you are unable to speak with your GP do you have an EPAU at your hospital? If so, I would call them and ask for advise.

Speak to your gp about changing to a suitable one.
My midwife gp and obstetrician all advised me that sertraline was safe to take during pregnancy and for breastfeeding.

Stopping it will cause more problems than continuing to take it. The risks are so so tiny that informed GPs will suggest people remain on it as benefits to mother outweigh the risks to infant. I was on citalopram for 1st pregnancy and am on it for 3rd. Was for 2nd and ended up with horrific PND and anxiety, The mother comes first.

I have been to the Drs and they have said about what could happen and it's made me really worried that if I take them something will happen to the baby. I'm just horrible without them though. Having panic attacks being horrible to be around. I just don't know what to do xx

Ruby I was the same. It felt like my whole world was gona come crashing down. All I can say is it will get easier, try to focus on your pregnancy and hopefully that will bring positivity to you.

I went through the exact same thing, it's hard but hopefully worth it in the end
