Too early to start decorating my nursery?

I'm only 18+2 but I won't have the time or the energy to do it how I want when I'm back at school in September (Im a teacher) doing 50 hour weeks and visiting mum in hospital (she's got cancer) 3 hours away, every weekend.

I will wait until August 5th (21 week scan)

I just think now I've got the time and energy, I should go for it, but I worry about jumping the gun for obvious reasons.

What do you all think, are any of you starting to decorate your nursery now?

I still haven't done ours and DS is 2! We had him in our room for quite a while anyway.

It's up to you. It doesn't jinx anything but depends how you'd feel if something happened. If youve got the time and energy and want it done it's probably a good time

I suppose it's a rather obsolete office space at the moment because I tend to get my work done at school so I don't need it to be an office. I have bought a changing table already so may as well take everything out and just put some drawers, change table and toy box pictures, small shelves and cute things I see when out and about in there.
We will co-sleep so there won't be a cot or anything.
I'm so impatient, I wish I could learn to take 1 day at a time!

Go for it, it sounds sensible to use some of your holidays after you've had your anomaly scan. I wish we started earlier - still in the middle of it at 35+4 and getting antsy!

We did it in phases up until she was about 1 I think.

It sounds like you could use a happy distraction of you can summon the energy.

Decorating won't jinx anything but maybe take it wee bit at a time and enjoy the rest while you have it

My dc are 9 and 4 and I still haven't got round to it. They just slept in with me until they needed an actual bedroom.

No harm doing it though if it makes you happy. It's a pleasant distraction and makes good sense to do it now in your case.

Do it. If you do it early you have loads of time to air it etc. We've been painting today (36+4) and I'm grumpy and big and too hot and have been unreasonably cross with DH not holding the paintbrush right . I'm aware that decorating a nursery is mainly for the parents and that baby doesn't care, but I wanted it done before baby gets here. I've been slowly sanding/priming/painting furniture over the last few weeks and need to finish recovering a poang chair, but think I'm nearly there.

What sort of thing are you hoping to do to your nursery? I love talking about nursery decoration. Sadly in real life I see people's eyes glaze over when I start mentioning it...

We started ours around 20 weeks and 8 weeks later it's about 90% done - just been doing little and often!

I'd do it - even the prep side takes time 😴

Thank you :) I think I'll settle on a compromise and just paint it but dump drawers, change table and shelf in all on top of each other and not hang any pictures etc until later on. Then the place is marked for baby and can alb arranged closer to the time.
I am not doing anything amazing I just imagine neutral light colours, lots of sheep skins and quirky felted things in box frames etc. I also adore children's books so looking forward to starting a little collection.
You're right. I think it's just a light hearted distraction from the other stuff going on.

Definitely make a start now, if you do some when you feel like doing it you'll enjoy it more whereas if you leave it until closer to the time and you're super busy/stressed with work you may find it a chore?

We decorated DDs nursery early and were so glad we did - it was lovely to not feel in a mad panic to get it 'finished' in the last couple of months

I'm only 13 weeks atm and I can't wait to get DDs old nursery ready for our new addition x
