Hospital bag - pram suit ?

Hi all

My baby is due at end of September and j was wondering whether I will need a pram suit for the journey home?

Journey home will be made by taxi and is around 40mins...

Also, is one cellular blanket and one swaddle blanket enough to pack?

I doubt it will be cold enough end of September for a pram suit I only rolled those out for proper winter weather.

Top tip - pack two bags, one for a quick hospital birth and out, so pads, birth and post orthodox clothes for you plus iPod maybe and drink/snack. 2 X vest and baby grow for baby, couple of nappies.

Then an overnight bag for if you do end up staying in that someone can bring in for you, with blanket. The hospital do provide cot bedding but I liked to take in my own. One should be enough.

I had a pramsuit and one thin fleece blanket. DD was August and DS November. Both for 30min journey.

Have no idea where "orthodox" came from! Feel free to take in whatever clothes you choose!

I'd agree it will be too warm for a pram suit, a blanket will be fine, maybe a little soft jacket or cardigan. I had a tuppence and crumble star wrap which was perfect for my September baby and my March baby.

I wouldn't bother with a pram suit - I hated the faff of getting one on DS. I'd get a star wrap from tuppence and crumble instead - much easier, and so cute!

I doubt you will need a pramsuit. They can bulk up the straps of a carseat anyway. I didn't use a pramsuit for DS 3 and he was born in February. What I did make ( you can buy them too) was a carseat swaddle blanket out of fleece. So the straps go through the holes on the blanket, baby goes in, do straps up tightly, wrap baby. This worked really well because you can unwrap if the car is warm.

Brilliant thanks all! That's super helpful. As we live so far from hospital and can only travel by taxi (quoted cost of taxi each way £70...yikes) we have to be smart about what we pack as won't be able to do lots of trips back and forth!

All you need is:
Car seat
Baby vest and suit
Nappies
Wet wipes
2 baby Blanket
Baby hat
Leaving clothes for you
Bed time wear in case of complications you may be there for a couple of days.
Have you thought about how you are going to feed. Bottle or breast if it's bottle you can bring pre prepared baby bottled milk with teats included.

No. My DS ily wore a pramsuit on particularly snowy days when we're nipping out for a walk. It won't be that cold I September (unless you aren't in the UK?). Also you need to be careful with car seat and padded coats/ pramsuits etc. They're not advised to be worn whilst in one as it means you can't get the straps fastened tight enough. Depending on the temperature, a sleepsuit/ babygrow over a short or long sleeve vest and then a cardigan over the top and a little hat will be fine. Once fastened in cover with a little blanket.
You'd only need to use either a swaddle or cellular when leaving hospital, if you mean during your stay then the hospital provides blankets while your in. If you're only expecting to be in for a few hours/ a day (I. E. Straightforward delivery) then I'd use hospital ones and switch to mine when discharged.

I have always find getting the sizing right on pram suits really tricky. Ds 2 is a December baby and he didn't go home from hospital in one but had one when he was 2-3 mths ish. The 0-3 months swamped him!
They also aren't recommended with car seats as they bulk up the straps
I have tended to do vest, baby grow, knitted cardi or a coat and then a woolly hat for winter babies as that's where they get cold and a blanket once the straps are on. Either single or folded
Don't forget something warm for you as hospitals are like saunas and once you get used to that heat even a sunny warm September day seems chilly!!!

I'm outnumbered re the pramsuit but I'm in Scotland so freezing pretty much all year round my midwife suggested a suit with both my dc as did hospital but honestly it's each to their own xx

Thanks all! I've packed a couple of cardigans so will use those with blankets and hat for journey home! The going home babygrow is a nice cosy velour one so baby should be nice and snug!

I've put 2 packets of wipes in and a bag of cotton wool - do you think that's ok? Or could I lose a packet of wipes, do you reckon?

You won't need two packets of wipes.

You shouldn't use pramsuits or bulky clothing under car seat straps. A blanket and hat will be fine.
