just found out that I am pg with no2, not exactly unplanned but a bit of a surprise as we hadn't really started erm, "trying" yet! Actually hadn't stopped using contraception yet, just got a bit careless one night, hence the surprise and lack of vitamin preparation.
Can you start taking folic acid in the 1st weeks of pg and does it do as much good as if you'd been taking it for weeks in advance? Anyone recommend a good pg vitamin? thanks all

i didnt take folic much at all with ds2.
terrible but i forgot totally.
(he was very large & perfectly formed btw)

Start taking the folic straight away would be my advice but don't panic, if you've had a normal diet before realising.

start taking it now I use sanatogan with my surprise bump last year

Of couse it is best to take your folic acid and vits pre-conception but taking them from now on is better late than never. Just think, it wasn't that long ago that they didn't even make pregnancy vits...

I didn't start til after ds was conceived, and he's fine. Just start now and there ain't much more you can do

DD was conceieveed on our first 'think I might be thinking about being ready for a second baby' bonk - just started taking folic acid/multivits when I realised - she's fine!

Was the same with my 1st baby (unplanned)- took FA from about week 6 as unaware pg until this time. DS is perfect - I am sure it is better to take it in advance but the advice I received was to start taking asap until week 12. Don't worry and congratulations x

Hiya

I am taking Pregnacare multivit. They are really good. Specially formulated for all the stuff you need when you're pregnant, including folic acid. They also leave out the vitamins that you don't need, which is a plus over taking a normal multivit.

Hope this helps. With DD I took Pregnacare all the way through my pregnancy and breastfeeding.
