Bleeding in (very) early pregnancy

Hi All

I found out yesterday morning that I am pregnant following a third round of IVF. I had a fairly strong line on an IC. When I got home from work yesterday I had started spotting, it was pink and watery and only there when I wiped.
Today I did another test which is darker than yesterday, plus a FRER Which shows a test line pretty much the same colour as the control.

However today I have had fresh red blood which def requires a pad. It's worse when I move and contains mucous. I have a blood test booked for this afternoon with a repeat on Monday to check for rising hcg, but just wondered if anyone else had experience of this, and how it turned out for you.

I am 11 days post 3 day transfer today, or 14dpo. Still on progesterone pessaries.

I really hope all is well, hopefully it will stop soon and you will see a healthy little bean with a heartbeat in a few weeks.

It can be hard to say at such an early stage, but it can be completely normal and all can be well. I had bleeding with both of my pregnancies, first one I had bleeding a few days after the positive test, enough to soak through a pad in a few hours. It stopped after a few days, and I then had more bleeding quite frequently at about 4,8,12 and 16 weeks I think. An early scan at 6 weeks showed a heartbeat, and a very healthy DD was born 9 months later. The bleeding was unexplained, EPU told me a lot of women have it for some reason.

I had similar in this pregnancy, but without as much in later weeks. I am now 20 weeks pregnant, again no reason for the bleeding.

Just sharing this to say it can happen, and all can be well. Look after yourself and hopefully all will be ok.

Thanks nuttypops trying not to worry but it's so hard having more blood done tomorrow so just gonna keep my fingers crossed that my hormone levels have gone up from the last time

I'm so sorry this is happening, nothing worse than early pregnancy stress. There is nothing concrete or tangible to see or do.

My own experience of this is it happened to me twice. Sadly once was the start of a very early (chemical) pregnancy and sadly it continued to bleed and increase, leading to a very early miscarriage. This was less painful than my previous 11 week miscarriage which took longer and was more painful.

The next time I was sure I was miscarriage again. I bleed a little on and off, sometime red and sometimes brown, for 3 days at around 5-6 weeks. She is now my gorgeous 1 year old DD.

There is hope, but please be cautious with your hope. I wasn't as devastated with my very early miscarriage as I'd tried hard to tell myself it might not happen. It was less difficult than the first miscarriage, not because of the different timings, but my differing mental state.

I send baby dust and hope your way.

Thank you everyone.

Moo - don't worry, I'm being very cautious. In face I don't really feel like there's any hope. I know I have so far to fall though after seeing such a strong bfp on Thursday. It was still strong yesterday and today which is the only reason I still have a glimmer of hope.

I just need to know.

Actually that is a good point. My BFP wasn't as strong as yours on either occasion, chemical pregnancy, it was really faint. That is definitely in your favour! I really hope it's all going well.

notinagreatplace · 17/07/2016 16:23

I had a bleed at 6 weeks pregnant - lots of red blood and mucus, totally convinced I'd miscarried but it was all fine and he is busily kicking me right now (26 weeks).

Lillybump · 17/07/2016 16:34

I had my bloods done again and my hormone levels have dropped from 544 to 438 so she doesn't think my pregnancy is going to continue I have to go back next week

loopylou1984 · 17/07/2016 18:12

Lilly sorry to hear that :(.

I've only had 2 episodes of bleeding today, and it's not been much. I have however had a couple of quite strong cramps.
On their own the cramps wouldn't worry me, but together with the bleeding I'm concerned.
Still a very strong positive test though.

Really hope everything turns out well for you sammy! Best of luck for tomorrow's blood test.

Kannet · 18/07/2016 06:09

Good luck today pox

eastcoastmum2014 · 18/07/2016 09:05

No experience I just want to send my best wishes and prayers that your little bean will stick xxx

livinginabox · 18/07/2016 09:47

I had this, got a BFP then started spotting and it turned into heavy and continuous bleeding, just like a period.

I was still getting a strong positive test throughout. Scan showed an early MC as the uterus lining had gone but HCG was still rising, so they thought ectopic. Amazingly 5 week scan showed a gestational sack in the right place & she clung on in there!

It was a horrible few weeks, a complete roller coaster of emotions. Will be keep everything crossed for you Flowers

loopylou1984 · 18/07/2016 12:24

Living, your story terrifies me because I'm sure in your situation my clinic will tell me to stop the progesterone and therefore my pregnancy would end anyway!
Thank you for all the support. Xx

Don't panic. You can always ask for a second opinion

loopylou1984 · 19/07/2016 09:02

HCG is now 205.4
The nurse said they would have liked it to be a bit higher but at least it's gone up. I have a scan booked for 9th August. Eek.

As another poster said, bleeding seems to be very common in IVF pregnancies. I had IVF and bled from 6.5 weeks to 9.5 weeks, starting with heavy red bleeding and cramps. My bean hung on in there somehow. I know it's super stressful. I hope you have a good outcome.

MagpieCursedTea · 19/07/2016 09:21

Sounds positive then sammy! Will they be doing more blood tests or are you just waiting for the scan now?

loopylou1984 · 19/07/2016 09:32

Just the scan now unless anything changes. I'm sure I could ask for another blood test if I feel I want one. Thank you everyone for your support, keeping everything crossed for the next three weeks!
