My GP has sent off my form to the midwife by email, and said the midwife will contact me to make the first appointment. They couldn't give any indication of time - out of interest, how long did others wait?

Usually between 8- 13weeks trust dependant

At my surgery you can self refer to the midwife - I called this morning and got an appointment for next week when I'll be 6.5 weeks! Much earlier than I expected. I was about 8 weeks on my first two pregnancies.

I will see one at 8 weeks this time, first time around it wasn't until 11 weeks.

I saw a midwife at 12 weeks..next appointment is booked for when I'm 16 weeks. Seems as though they largely leave you alone

Wishfulmakeupping · 13/07/2016 15:05

Yes first time it was around 10-11 weeks and 2nd time (at different surgery) it was around 8

Thank you. I really meant how long was it between your form being sent to them and them actually ringing you to make the appointment?

You should expect to receive a booking appointment around 9-12 weeks depending on where in the country you are. Any problems in the meantime, see your GP.

Cross post with your update. It is based on number of weeks pregnant rather than time from referral. If you've heard by 8-9 weeks give them a call.

MidMay · 13/07/2016 15:12

Not heard rather. How many weeks are you OP?

bittapitta · 13/07/2016 15:18

It'll be a letter sent by second class post not a phone call, if our trust is anything to go by. Infuriatingly.

MidMay · 14/07/2016 08:11

We usually telephone women to arrange their booking appointment so letter not always the case.

Different system where I am - the GP surgery makes the appointment once pregnancy is confirmed here - but the first midwife appointment was when I was about 8 weeks pregnant. If you've not heard anything by then I'd chase it up.

I saw my midwife for the first time last week for the 'booking in' appointment, I was 8 + 3. The appointment was just over one and a half hours. The reception at the surgery booked me in for it. I'm now waiting for the letter with my scan appointment!

Emilyyyy · 14/07/2016 15:30

I'm 13 weeks Saturday and havent even got an appointment- something to do with she wouldn't see me until scan and my scan is tomorrow but then I go away for a week.

I was trying to see her a few weeks ago but she wouldn't
