Books to read to a toddler to prepare for a new baby.

Hi, I've got a 2.4 year old, and I'm expecting another in 6 weeks. Any ideas on how to prepare him for a new baby? Any books to read? Any tips or advice? Much appreciated!

Mine enjoyed Topsy and Tim and the New Baby. We read it lots in the build up to DC3 arriving!

We had three. The Usborne First Experiences "New Baby" was good as it had a bit about mummy & daddy having to go off to hospital in the middle of the night. Topsy & Tim had a bit about babies crying & having to prioritise that. There's a house inside my mummy was just a lovely story.
We had no idea where DD (2.6 at the time) would go when I went into labour as we'd recently moved, the few friends I'd made all happened to be on holiday & the nearest family was 4.5hrs away. My main plan was to hammer on a neighbours door as we lived in a street with a lot of SAHP & retired people & I figured out one of them would take pity on me! Because of this, I briefed DD that she might have to go on an adventure, she had a little bag packed with PJs, spare clothes, instructions, spare keys for our house & a note on it saying "get cuddlies". My plan was I could either dump her at someone's house or they could come here &, depending on the time/day, could look at the instructions & see where she should be & when, eg I could hammer on a neighbours door at 6th, they would come to ours, know what DD had for breakfast & what time she he to be at nursery.

We have been given "Mummy, Mummy, what's in your tummy?" And "Pirate Pete - I'm a New Big Brother". DS (just turned 2) is really enjoying reading them. DC2 due in 8 weeks

Waiting for Baby and My New Baby by Rachel Fuller. Quite open ended so you can start some conversations around the images if you want, or just read them straight through

We have one called Little Monster Did It by Helen Cooper. It's quite sweet. No impending siblings yet but my 19 month old really likes it.

Hi, we got there's a house in mummy's tummy and the usbourne book in the end. Read them to our son, he seems to love them. Hopefully it will help. Thanks for all the advice.

'Hello Baby' is good if you're planning s home birth

"Brand New Baby" by Bob Graham is lovely, as is "It's Not Fair" by Anita Harper. "Be Gentle" by Virginia Miller is great re new babies or pets.

I second 'waiting for baby' and 'my new baby'. It's just pictures so you can adapt the story to your circumstances- the toddler could be either a girl or a boy; and it pictures everything that happens before and after the new baby arrives. DS1 was 2.3 when DS2 was born, and we "read" these books lots in the last few months of my pregnancy.

Weirdly my colleague asked this today.
We had the board books Waiting for Baby and My New Baby by Annie Kubler.
The toddler lovely and could be a boy or a girl and the pictures are clear with no text to distract. The full story of mum's tummy getting bigger, being tired, painting baby's new room, going to hospital in the night is covered by the first book. The second is just as good with the baby arriving and toddler watching baby crying a lot and nappy changes etc

My toddler loved the books.

I hate there's a house inside my mummy. Really and truly the worst toddler book I've bought yet (and I have a LOT of books).
Pirate Pete on the other hand has gone down a storm with ds 19 months.
