Currently 31weeks and just had my midwife appointment where it shows im measuring at 36weeks Shock iv been booked in for a growth scan but what happens (obviously they scan you) but do they just check babys measurements? Hoping baby is just lay in an awkward position making me bigger than i should be. Any one measured big but gone on to have a normal sized baby and not a monster one like i might be cooking

I was told baby was going to be at least 9lb. Last scan was told I would be having c section as baby was showing a massive spurt could be 10lb plus

Baby came day before c section she was 6lb 7oz

They get it wrong loads of times

Don't panic!!!

They will estimate baby's size I think, but can be 1-2lbs out which I always find a bit Hmm.

Did the mw mention that you could be carrying excess water/fluid on your tummy? What size are you or what's your body shape usually when you're not pregnant?

Worst but I had no baby grows that would fit so sister had to raid asda in morning and get me loads of tiny baby and micro nappies

You'll be fine

I have had fundal height measurement and a growth scan this week, one put me near the 90th centile and one on the 10th centile only a day apart.. They can definitely be inaccurate. They will take measurements of the baby's head, abdomen and femur length.

Im usually a size 14 pre pregnancy. With DD I was tiny and only really got a bump around 33 weeks with DC2 im obviously bigger hence the scan. I did have bad HG with DD and lost 2 stone with this one iv lost a stone and think iv only put about 8 or 9 lbs of that back on

I was measuring 34 weeks at 28 weeks. Had growth scan- baby's measurements all at 50th percentile or below.

Was re-measured yesterday at 31 weeks gestation and got 30.

Midwife basically laughed it off saying bump
measurements are really inaccurate and change according to all sorts of things, particularly baby position. Also, if you are tall your bump tends to measure larger.

Hope that is reassuring.

Growth scans are great for small babies for crap for big babies, notoriously out by up to 20%. Although mine was pretty accurate. Had a 36/40 scan and baby was on 98th centile for everything and my fundal height was always 4cm ahead. Estimated weight at 36/40 was 7lb 10oz and he was born 5weeks 3days later at 10lb 5oz.

Even if baby is on the larger side, don't be scared by anyone about giving birth. Your body can do this. I am a midwife and hate it when I hear colleagues talk about big babies

I agree
They can be way out. Don't panic X

Growth scans with both DC. DC1 estimated 10lb, born a week late at 8lb 15oz. Told DC2 would be average weight, born 3 days late at 9lb 4oz. Was 58cm long though

rugbychick · 29/06/2016 17:08

I had growth scans done as I was measuring at least 2 weeks ahead. Growth scan at 32 weeks was 7lb 4 Oz. At 34 weeks I measured 7lb 3oz. Dd born at 37+1 weeks at 6lb 13oz!

MrsGlam · 29/06/2016 17:36

I had lots of growth scans..Told he was 8lb 2ozs 4 days before he was born and was 7lb 6ozs at birth they are very inaccurate.
I also had to have an extra GTT because he was measuring big.

Glitterball86 · 29/06/2016 20:13

I had a growth scan with DS 4 days before I had him, they estimated him at almost 7lb - he came out at 4lb 13 and I've been referred to consultant for more growth scans in this pregnancy ! Even my midwife said they aren't always very accurate as they measure it based on an "average" range of measurements ! So don't panic!

Mar15mite · 29/06/2016 20:47

My 37 week growth scan put me at 42+4!

So I'm being induced tomorrow at 38+4 they were estimating 10lbs at 40 weeks so I'll let you know how accurate they are shortly!

Jenjen85 · 30/06/2016 20:18

Had my growth scan this evening and baby is measuring normal for 31weeks. Lay transverse so they said that might be why Im measuring bigger. Got another scan at 36weeks to check little monkey has moved
