babymoon abroad at 32 weeks?

I usually travel a lot for leisure but due to work this year I haven't been able to do so. I'm absolutely dying to get away somewhere nice and sunny (and sensible... France, Italy, Greece?) for a break before baby arrives. I'd be 32 weeks on the return when we are available to go and would be away for five days. I know airlines will accept me with a GP letter saying I'm fit but what do you think about insurance and being abroad at that stage? Help.... England's sunshine isn't cutting the mustard!!

Fine if you have an uncomplicated pregnancy. I found out I have placenta Preavia at 20 week scan, and I wouldn't travel overseas now.

Just be aware at 32 weeks you will be uncomfortable, and might get stuck if you lie on a sun lounger. You might also have low tolerance for heat

I personally wouldn't go abroad so late in pregnancy I didn't with ds and I'm 34 weeks now and haven't been away this pregnancy either.
We go when baby is 8 weeks or so old found it surprisingly easy to take a baby abroad

If you've got an uncomplicated pregnancy, why not? We're going away and I will be 31+5 when we return, the concession we've made is going somewhere with comparable medical facilities to the UK, which are English-speaking (only because it's my first child and I'd like to know what's going on, this is probably overkill though), and also somewhere without Zika virus. As it transpires we've actually been consultant led this pregnancy and they were more than happy for us to go, and provided a fit to fly letter without a second glance. We've also got pretty robust pregnancy travel insurance with a company called Ravenhall. Enjoy!

Insurance - make sure your policy covers the baby as well as you. It's relatively easy to find coverage for pregnancy complications but there have been some recent horror stories in the press where prem babies born abroad weren't covered by the mother's insurance policy.

We used Insure and Go's annual family policy. Any children born in the year are automatically covered. It was more expensive than buying a single trip policy but it was the only way they'd cover the baby if she'd been born on holiday.

I took a long haul transatlantic flight at 32 weeks for work and was fine. I had a letter from my midwife saying I was safe to fly but never needed it.

I did fly business class, drank litres and litres of water, and wore compression socks. My ankles after that flight were smaller than normal for that part of my pregnancy.

Babymoon is a term in use since the 1970s at least to refer to the cocooning with a newborn that is/was/might be considered desirable for the first couple of weeks post-partum.

So, no you don't go anywhere at all for a babymoon.

But for a break before the baby arrives, you'd be OK for short haul at 32 weeks, as long as it is a singleton pregnancy. You will be insurable but make sure your cover extends to the new baby just in case.

You need to avoid any destinations which require immunisations you are not in date for, and all malarial areas. Somewhere with good hospitals where English is widely spoken would probably be reassuring. How about Cyprus?

I wouldn't, I'm 36+5 now but have been uncomfortable and barely sleeping for about 6 weeks now. We had some hot weather here when I was around 32 weeks and I was boiling, swollen, sweaty and got really burnt as I didn't realise my skin would be more sensitive to the sun than usual. However every pregnancy is different and you might be fine.

If you have had an uncomplicated pregnancy, go for it. Although, I think most insurance companies only cover premature labour up until 32 weeks?

I went long haul (12 hour flight) at 30 weeks and flew back at 31+2. Had a fit to fly letter (nobody asked me for it), drank shitloads of water, walked around every hour and wore flight socks. I came off the plane less swollen then I would have not pregnant although that's probably due to the fact I couldn't avail of the free wine

I did a shorthaul all inclusive at 32 weeks and had a lovely time. One thing I learned though- make sure your GP letter says "fit to fly" and not just "fit to travel."

Ten years later, it's still the only child free holiday we've ever had, so it has special memories.

I'd go! I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant now and I'd go tomorrow if I could. I was the same with my first pregnancy too so I guess I'm just very lucky and extremely blasé..!

Some airlines don't require fit to fly letters but get one just in case. Single pregancy are able to fly until the end of the 35th week and multiple pregnancy is the end of the 32nd week. Try and get a aisle seat to get up and move about and maybe near the rest room for your comfort. Please don't forget under current eu law you are entitled to help though the airport if needed as it's under the disability act x

I am not having a multiple birth and have been so super well throughout, luckily. I am conscious not to go somewhere too hot but I'm a bit of a heat bean. Thanks for the advice about skin changing and being more prone to sun burn. My husband hates sitting in the sun so I very much doubt that would be on the agenda in any case.... I just need to see the sunshine and feel it on my face! As well as having a little break with hubby!! I'll have a look at the insurance companies you suggested, thanks so much. X

I think the meaning of 'babymoon' has evolved AllPowerfulLizardPerson. I've only ever heard it used in the context the OP does!

Baby moon has not evolved, people just keep getting it wrong.

You wouldn't go on honeymoon without your husband would you? you can't have a baby moon until the baby's born.

I work in healthcare and it is widely predicted that any Zika announcements won't be made until after the summer

Zika can affect a pregnancy at any stage and parts of Southern Europe already have the mosquitoes that can carry Zika there so all it takes is for one person to travel to the same place as you and be carrying Zika, get bitten. Same mosquito bites you and you both end up infected

I wouldn't have gone that late with either of mine just in case they'd come early. I wouldn't have worried about flying though. As long as you wear the compression socks.

Mrs, i'm currently 31+2 and have just got back from a week in Cyprus, during which temperatures reached 40 degrees. It was a wonderful, relaxing break and i'm so glad we did it. I lay by the pool every day, always under a sun shade and wearing a hat with factor 50 sun tan lotion .

I didn't get asked for my doctors note on the way there, but had to show it on the way back.

The only thing I would say - our flight was 4.5 hours each way on a holiday company airline. By about 4 hours in I was struggling with having been sat down for so long (I did get up and walk around when I could), so maybe look at places which aren't too far away?
