Anyone used Blackpool Victoria or Preston Hospital labour wards recently?

Not sure if I have put this in the right place, sorry if not.

I am wondering if anyone has had a baby at Blackpool Victoria Hospital or Preston Hospital recently and would mind sharing your experiences please? Would you recommend the care there? I have been told I can't use the midwife let unit and will need to go to the labour ward.

Our second baby is due later in the year, but we are new to the area and live in between the two hospitals so I am not sure which to go for. I had complications during the birth of DD (at another hospital) so have to use the labour ward rather than the midwife led unit which is a shame as both midwife led units look fabulous from what I have seen and heard!

Thanks for any info.

I will be doing at bvh soon! If I was you I'd go for Preston, purely because round here it's common knowledge bv is a bit of a dive and a joke. I know so many people they have done more harm than good to. However, i don't think the women and children's/ delievery suite is 'the same' as the rest of the hospital and midwives have only ever been lovely to my friends who have had children there any myself when I've had to go for check ups ect.
Hope this helps I don't mean to put you off just my opinion

I've done both. Preferred The Vic because of parking and facilities. I can't compare them like for like because the births were very different and I was out quickly the second time. Both have relatively new facilities but both are subject to staff shortages. And both had grumpy midwives (I thought).

Thanks tealeaf and walk, useful to hear other people's views. Tealeaf, I know what you mean about people saying that about The Victoria, I ended up there a few months ago after having an emergency operation elsewhere when we were visiting family, but I was readmitted when we got home to the Victoria and had to stay a couple of nights. Totally unrelated to pregnancy but I wasn't overly impressed, much of it is to do with staff shortages though I think. I don't envy NHS staff at the moment.

I was pleasantly surprised by both women and children's units so maybe they are they part of the hospital do need to use! (EPU at Preston and normal scan at Blackpool)

Hello, I'm using Preston for a high risk pregnancy over my nearest hospital (slightly more north). Preston is very busy, but the midwives/consultants have been very good. I'll tell you in a few weeks what it's like to birth there!

Tealeaf and Special, best of luck for your new arrivals soon, wishing you both a smooth and gentle birth process for you and your baby!
