measuring behind after early scan, possibly up to 2 weeks

Hi, I had an early reassurance scan yesterday which was good, saw my little blob with a heartbeat.

But the sonographer measured me behind at 7w1d which concerns me as according to the NHS due date calculator I would be 9w1d as it takes into account your cycle length (my last cycle was 23 days, but I have just come off the Mirena after 5 years with no periods throughout so don't have a lot to go on for cycle length plus I also have pcos)

If I just take it from my LMP which is 30/4/16 I would be 8w1d. But I know I ovulated 9 days after my LMP as I was temping etc.

I just don't know what to think regarding be my dates and whether to be concerned at this point. I would be ok with measuring behind a week but 2 weeks really concerns me.

Anyone have any experience or reassurance?

Early scans are awful for dates, because a mm makes a huge difference. I had an early scan when I was 6 weeks, couldn't see much, said I measured 4-5 weeks. Went back 2 weeks later and measured 7 weeks. I also knew exactly when I thought I conceived as hadn't dtd that much, so it did worry me. I'm now 35 weeks, and baby has grown perfectly.

Try not to worry too much about the dates from this scan, seeing a heartbeat is the thing to focus on

Thanks, this is what I'm hoping. Like you I'm pretty certain of when I ovulated and dtd etc. Definitely pleased to have seen a heartbeat though. I see the midwife on Tuesday so I'll let her decide how many weeks to put me down as!

Your Midwife will go by your LMP not the private scan. It's why they don't date you until your 12 week scan, because it is harder to measure in the early stages.

I understand that, it was the NHS due date calculator that put me at 9 weeks.

As shit as it is, it's reasons exactly like this that the NHS don't scan until 12w.

Things are changing in there right now all the time and no method of measurement is accurate enough really to date you spot on at this stage; that's why you're dealing with a worrying 2w margin of error.

Please please try not to worry. Blob has a heartbeat (yay) and measurements can mean that due dates are shifted round until the 20w scan.
