cervical stitch

Hi I'm new here. I recently had a cervical stitch put in at 19+3 last week. I've had regular bleeding when I wipe but nothing on my pad. Any one have any advice on this or stories about their stitch. I'm nervous over everything at the moment and am off work till I give birth just hoping baby stays in a few more months yet

I had a stitch put in at almost 22 weeks and bled for about 2 weeks afterwards. I basically put myself on bed rest until it stopped, but that probably was a bit overkill. I'm 34 weeks now and had no problems since.

Thanks for the reply that's so reassuring I've been so worried. I've rang the hospital twice already. How long were you on bed rest? Have you gone back to work?

I did bed rest for about 3 weeks, and I do still take things very easy. I've been off work most of the time, but only due to other issues. Apparently because of the stitch you are more prone to an irritable uterus, which I have, so get contractions when I move too much.

It is really terrifying, don't feel bad about calling the hospital if things just don't feel right, or if the bleeding gets worse

It's interesting how hospitals work. Where I work all women who have a stitch put in are admitted for bed rest until 28/40

A lot of stories I've read people were put on bed rest I'm doing moderate bed rest I'm allowing myself to sit on the sofa downstairs. Luckily we have a stair lift for my nana so I'm able to get up and down without any walking the stairs. I don't think il go back to work as I have to walk to the train station a mile or so away and have been advised not to walk to far.

I think you sound like you are doing exactly the right thing, a mile walk could be a bit much.

I was told that if you got through the first week then you should get at least an extra 5 weeks, but taking things easy and trying to avoid gravity helps.

I honestly can't believe I've got this far, i hope yours works as well as mine has, I now just need to get mine taken out in 3 weeks!!

I'm not sure how I would know if I hadn't got through this week I guess my waters would have gone and I'd know if that happened I think.
Have you had any steroid injections or any antibiotics? I was only on meds for. 24 hrs after the op?

You would know, waters going or proper labour kicking in, so you are doing great.

I only got steroids at 32 weeks when I had another scare with contractions, and had 48 hours of antibiotics after the stitch. I did get progesterone pessaries for a while, but they made me really sore and didn't seem to be doing anything, so they took me off them again, but might be worth asking about just to get you a bit further on again

Yeah I have my follow up appointment next Tuesday so I will be asking then. I have my anomaly scan today so I'm hoping everything is ok in there.
I definitely don't think my waters have broke or I've gone into labour so that's a good start.

If it helps, I've just had my second cerclage removed last week. Still going strong at 37 weeks. Last baby was a term baby too. I had very little restriction but choose to stop work due to the demanding nature of my job on my feet. I always thought I was leaking fluid but in fact your cervix just generates extra fluid with a foreign body in it. I too bled both times for 2 weeks. X

Thank you. That does help a lot. I went for my anomaly scan yesterday and everything with baby is fine. But I bled a lot more I think due to walking around more. I'm hoping it starts to calm down as I'm now 1 week 1 day post surgery

Great news about the scan, did they check your cervix too? Take it really easy today and the bleeding should calm down again, I definitely noticed an increase if I did more than normal.

Also agree about extra discharge, I've had loads since the stitch, annoying, but totally fine

Be not noticed any extra discharge yet but that could because it's all blood. Ive been speaking to a lady that had an awful lot of blood throughout her whole pregnancy from her stitch sometimes enough to soak through her jeans, so I'm grateful mine doesn't even go onto the pad.
They only scanned the baby but I have an appointment on Tuesday that I think is to measure my cervix. When I had the operation the consultant said I had length it was just dilated about 2/3cm.

Your bleeding sounds exactly like mine, towards the end it went into more blood tinged discharge, then clear discharge.

Fingers crossed for a good length scan next week, over about 4 weeks time mine actually lengthened again from 2cm to 5!! Make sure they do an internal though, I went in for cramping and they did an abdominal scan, said cervix was down to 1.5cm, consultant then did a tv scan and it was actually still at the 5cm!!!

Thanks for the advice I definitely will make sure they do an internal il want everything to be confirmed to be ok. To stop me worrying
